Frank Report 29 Jun 2018 10:21

Good morning Gill and all,

Liz I am envious of you going for a pub lunch by a nice cool river. The nearest we can get to water is Canal pubs, but I expect it's better than nothing. ;-) ;-) ;-) I remember there was the most beautiful pub at a place called "ISLIP" somewhere out Oxford way. Right on the edge of a river, they did wonderful Plowman's lunches.

I didn't bother ringing Barry about the gate, if he did it, he will know he did. If he didn't it will remain a mystery. I rand Harvey last night and he will come up Saturday afternoon to fix it.

My prediction was right. As soon as England meet decent opposition they would loose. !!! Not a bad game but a lot os silly mistakes. At least they won't be coming up agains JAPAN. who look quite a accompanist them, with so much energy, they would run us into the ground. Pundit Frank has had his say. ;-) ;-) ;-)

On your say so Jane, I have bought a new bowl, like the one Mel put on the site. Our present bowl has GREY/ SILVER paint on the side, where I washed the brushes out after painting the gate. So I am looking for BROWNIE POINTS. lol lol.

Another beautiful day here, which I think is continuing into next week. So you can rest from the garden Gill. Ros planted out the new flower bed, which I must say looks amazing. So much colour and variations of plants. She has used a lot from the greenhouse too.

I did a silly thing last night. I had taken my T shirt off and put it on the arm of the chair. While watching the football I felt something crawling over my face. I grabbed my T shirt and wiped my eyes and face, forgetting it had "DEEP HEAT CREAM" on it from when I put it on my shoulder. BOY, did it sting my eyes. I had to go and wash my face, in the middle of the football.

Don't know what Madam has got planed for today, but I expect the GARDEN will come into it somewhere. lol

I shaved last night before bed, so only my shower this morning, then shorts and book in the garden. Can't be bad. !!!

Another glorious day here. I know I'm out on a limb but we're just loving this hot weather!!!
Gill, your local radio/tv station will give you a weather forecast, I think round here it's the same till well into next week, but it could be different where you are. Need to keep a bit of an eye on the news as round here they are muttering about a hosepipe ban!! This won't affect us as we have our own bore hole and aren't on the mains, but they can get a bit iffy about it, so it's as well to be aware!!
Yes, Frank there are some lovely riverside pubs in and around Oxford that we used to frequent as students and later when we lived near Oxford after OH left the RN. Wallingford is another town we lived in too, and the river there is beautiful. Yesterday we went too a pub by the river near Malmesbury, and it was lovely. We shall go again!!
I've mown the grass what's left of it!! Tbh we're not that bothered as when it rains, and it will! It'll soon come back and look as good as new in no time! All the veg are watered, I've weeded the carrots! picked some sweet peas and done Merlin's Citronella!!
OH has just got back from Screwfix!! Time for a COT!!

Morning all,

Another extremly hot day. I sha'nt be doing much today just sitting in the shade and maybe do a bit of crafting. Gill can anyone really tell how long this is going to last. Your guess is as good as mine. I say sleep during the day and get up when its cool at night.

I meant to say yesterday that the night beforewe had three hogs in the garden all at once. Two were eating out of one bowl together and the other one was outside the feeding ring hiding down at the bottom of a post oh has on the edge of the lawn. I went to get my camera and the one by the post was on the way off over our road towards my shed but I did get a pic of the other two. I shall have to download it and send it to you. One was light in colour and the other one darker. The lighter one had all white patches on its bottom and I saw that one again at the ring last night. My laptop had run out of battery so I did'nt have the camera on them last night.

I think the long range forecast can give a rough idea of what to expect from the weather so it's worth having a look.
OH is up on the scaffold, I'm about to take Cas!! Gill, I'll try and get a pic of Cas in her swimming pool to send to you and Sandra!!
Must get on as her ladyship is getting fractious!!

Jane Report 29 Jun 2018 12:22

Afternoon All
Just a quick one from me now as Fitz is coming for lunch. It wasn't planned so I have dashed out to get some bread and cheeses. Chris made a big salad while I was gone.
I actually think it is going to be far too hot for me to sit outside for long even with the shade up.

The bowl I bought was a Joseph Joseph one and I darent say what I paid for it after seeing that Beldray one !!!!!!.I think mine is bigger though and very robust and probably a bit too big for a Caravan sink. But I have it now and am really pleased with it.

Stay cool everyone if that is at all possible. I'll be back later today.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jun 2018 13:21

Sorry about that Jane finding the beldray one. I saw how much you paid for your one.!!!!!!!!!! Think I will stay with my plastic one thanks. I have a long strainer mum bought me for salad which fits right over the sink.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jun 2018 14:24

Gosh its really hot here today................................

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 29 Jun 2018 14:29

My w up bowl fits nicely on the lip round the sink, so the bottom of the bowl doesn't touch the bottom of the sink. I've got a salad spinner that sits in the bowl and a strainer that fits on the edge so no need to change as emptying the bowl isn't any trouble!
OH has got on well with the roof so is feeling chuffed. He's having a sleep now in the shade! I'm in the sun peacefully reading!

Frank Report 29 Jun 2018 15:13

Afternoon all, Yes, what a hot day it is.

Dear Martine asked if she could borrow our pressure washer. We have TWO so I looked for the old one, that she could keep, Do you think I could find it. NOT ON YOUR NELLIE !!! I searched two sheds, and started on the garage. Ended up both Ros and I clearing the garage of all the rubbish and empty box's. The seats are down on the car so we could load everything into it.

Ros decided to drive to the Drs this morning for the scripts. and drop a "Thank You Card" off to a lady who runs Mother's Club, for the flowers she sent round last week. She says that she feels absolutely fine, and feels quite able to drive. So later this afternoon we will drop the rubbish at the tip, and go on to eat somewhere. As much as I would like to go near some water, the place I was thinking about has had a terrible report by a lad in the village, who was there last night after a cricket match. The players all ate there and had a few beers, The service was none existent and the food terrible. SO THAT'S OUT. I expect we will end up at our usual one, where we know the food is good as is the service.

As a treat for the way Ros has progressed, I have booked Sunday Lunch at our very friendly pub/restaurant in the next village.

Pleased to hear Ian has got on well with the boarding Liz, has he much more to do.??

Jane I like the sun, but I haven't been sitting out in it too much. But have enjoyed sitting on the lounger with my book in the fresh air. Gill as Liz said, the forecast looks like this weather will go into next week. But situated where you are, it might be different. Keep you eyes on the local forecast to make sure.

Where do you think MADAM is now, on her stool weeding the stones/gravel down by the shed. She just won't take any notice of me, just like all you women. lol lol.

I'm going dive in the shower again to ge the dust off me, hen clean shorts and short sleeve shirt, ready for the off, when Ros feels like coming in. She had not be to long, as I don't know what time the TIP closes.

Gillx Report 29 Jun 2018 15:20

Love the pics of Cas Liz. Has she lost some weight or is it just the camera angle? She looked nice and cool in the water, Sandra was thrilled to see her and still thinks she's cute <3

I didn't realise the bowl had handles on, that would make it easier to pick up Jane. It's turned out to be a bit cooler here today which makes a nice change, but then I'm keeping out of the sun and sitting in the shade. Hope it's not to hot for your lunch with Fitz.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the hogs Mel. We haven't seen any hogs here for quite some time, the same with the squirrels, so now we're wondering where they have all gone. Hope they haven't come to any harm.

How are your eyes now Frank, it's so easily done though, hope they're not so sore now. It sounds like Ros has been her usual busy self again in the garden.

I'm really tired, I only got two and a half hours sleep last night with it being so hot, even though I have a fan on me all night it doesn't seem to help much. I'm hoping I have a better nights sleep tonight, I feel like a zombie at the moment.

Bunnyboo Report 29 Jun 2018 16:11

Yes I think she has lost a bit Gill (wish I could!!) She was getting a bit tubby, but in this weather she's not eating as much and is as lively as a ever, so I think she has shed a bit!!
There's quite a lot more to do Frank, but OH has got it down to a fine art, so it's just a case of a bit each day. Tomorrow we shall move the scaffolding along and crack on! We shall leave the front till next year as it's nothing like as bad as the back gets the brunt of the bad weather!
We're having hard boiled egg salad toning (easy!!) last night we had venison burgers and they were lovely!

Jane

Jane Report 29 Jun 2018 17:04

Ouch Frank!! Deep Heat rubbed in your eyes must have been horrendous :-S :-S It takes a long time for that stingy feeling to go .
Sunday lunch out sounds good Frank :-D Ros sounds like she is doing so well(as long as she remembers she can't do any heavy lifting ) especially at the tip!!.

Gill you must be totally pooped today with so little sleep last night. When Chris goes to bed before me he tends to shut all the big windows in the front of the house.(because of burglars). But when I go up I open them up again LOL just to get a bit of a breeze coming through. I always have an ear open at night and am awake at the slightest of noises.Plus I am up and down like a yoyo during the night what with a couple of trips to the loo and then Thomas I think I would hear anyone trying to get in .(well I like to think so :-) ) I just hope I am never tested on that.

Lunch was fine outside as we had a bit of a breeze and managed to stay under the shade of the big patio umbrella, although I did keep moving around from seat to seat as the sun came around :-D,but it is so much cooler inside now with the big fan on. Chris has gone for 40 winks before the long job of watering the garden later.I have just hung out washing that should have gone out a few hours ago .It will be dry in no time.
There seems no end to this heatwave ! As lovely as it is I would welcome a bit of a breather now.Its all getting a bit too much . We just aren't used to this continual intense heat.

Gillx Report 29 Jun 2018 17:32

I thought that was the case with Cas Liz. Mind you, you don't feel like eating much in this weather. So long as she's okay that's the main thing and she looked really happy in the photo's. It sounds like your OH is very busy at the moment, but at least it'll all be done soon in time for the winter months, when, do doubt we'll all be complaining it's to cold LOL.

I was taking a look at my emails Jane and fell asleep sitting up, so I must of been really tired. I don't think it was sleep as such, more of a cat nap, I then went outside and sat in the shade, there is a bit of a breeze today so it feels a bit cooler and that helped wake me up. Pleased to hear your lunch with Fitz went well.
I'm a bit like your Chris when it comes to leaving windows open at night and of course we're in a bungalow so our bedroom is at ground level. I do leave my bedroom curtains closed during the day which seems to keep the heat out, well, some of it anyway, but I have hot flushes being in my 50's so that makes me hot too. I came and lay on the sofa at 3.30 this morning in front of another fan we have but I couldn't get comfy so went back to bed, I did manage another half an hour's sleep but then gave up and got up. I end up with headaches if I don't get much sleep and also if it's to hot, so I've had a couple of migraines lately. I just wish it was all over so I can get back to normal.

OH is cutting the front lawn now and will water it later when the sun has gone around the back. He is hoping to make a start on digging the borders tomorrow, luckily there isn't a lot of border to dig as we've got plants on two of the sides. The soil is clay so no good to keep so that'll be bagged and taken to the tip, we'll replace it with some decent top soil ready for the new plants to go in to. Not sure what type of plants we are getting yet, all I know is we'll need some tall ones to match the plants on the other side.

Aldi were selling pressure washers this week Frank, I bought one for OH for his birthday as we don't have one and have to borrow my mum's, I think they were around £40 so not a bad price, maybe Martine could buy herself one if you can't find your old one. It might be worth asking for help down the tip, you don't want Ros having a set back, she does seem to be doing an awful lot lately. The review from the lad didn't sound to good, best to stick to places you know at least you know you'll have a lovely meal with nice service.

Well I got the hoover out this morning and put it in the kitchen and thats where it has stayed.

Oh did a silly thing this mroning. He did the filters on his pond and left a tap open. When I went out there the pond was down by a good foot if not more. The well water was going into the pond as it does each day as we have it on a timer switch. He would'nt put the hose in there to fill it up so he has had to lower the scimmer to clean the top of the pond and did have the hose on for a little while so the scimmer would work. We are on a meter so it will have to fill up bit by bit from the well but we don't want to drain that dry!

Morning all,

Another sunny morning. Well thats June over and done with. I don't know where that month went and thats for sure.

The usual for a Saturday morning, go and get the paper and deliver the eggs. Nothing else planned for today exept I must do some watering.

I could'nt go to sleep last night I just kept tossing and turning. Got up and sat on the side of the bed for a while and then settled down again. Woke oh up twice I think.

Gillx Report 30 Jun 2018 08:22

Morning Mel, morning all

Sunny here today surprise, surprise but thankfully there is a breeze around so it feels a lot cooler. Yes, another month gone, this year has gone by so quickly, before we know it it'll be Christmas again.

Sorry to hear you had a bad nights sleep Mel, I finally got a good one and feel much better for it. I hope you have a better night tonight. I hadn't slept properly for days and was starting to feel awful. I think I probably slept well last night because I was so tired. Maybe you could close your bedroom curtains during the day to keep the room cooler, we do that and it seems to be working

Hope your OH's pond fills up okay, these things are easily done. I doubt he'll make the same mistake again.

OH is starting the digging this morning so hopefully that'll be done and out of the way today. He was going to throw most of the clay soil away but remembered it needed levelling so there shouldn't be much rubbish when he's finished, just a few remaining roots from the plants and trees we took out. We've still got the rest of one tree to cut down but that'll probably be done another day.

I've decided to take a look at my family tree today as I can't dig the border, the ground is to hard for me, then we're going to watch the F1 qualifying later.

Going to water the plants in the greenhouse first.
