These are installed on my Computer..........both free...

Plus the one Jonesey has...

I had a nasty virus on my computer some time back and these were all installed after it was cleaned up and no probs since...

I installed the free Norton thing by accident one day...What a pain it was, forever popping up ...Its been taken off now.....

But I havent a clue how they work...I pay the puter person to sort out anything like that if I have a prob.....Found myself a new Puter person at half the price and he doesnt turn up in a very short skirt and swinging his handbag..

Hi Rob,

We were obviously both answering Jax at the same time (Lol). I had just read your story and noticed Jax's question and decided to answer that first.

Yours is a tale that unfortunately is not uncommon but never give up hope of finding out who your father was. I used to own a shop and one of my regular customers was a half caste lady. She was the product of a wartime liaison between her mother and a coloured GI. Her mothers husband was away at war at the time. When he returned he accepted the situation and brought the daughter up as his own although that no doubt had its difficulties as he like his wife, was white.

When my customers mother died my customer decided, with her stepfathers permission, to try to find her biological father. All she knew about him was his name (Quite a common one) , he was a GI and the fact that her conception occurred in England. She contacted some American services organisation and they provided her with a long list of GI's with that name who had been in England at about the time of her conception.

She decided to write to the last known addresses of the men on the list. The very first person she wrote to responded and confirmed that he was her father.

The reason I was told the story was that one day an elderly black American gentleman came into my shop and bought all my of postcards depicting Birmingham Corporation buses. The following day my customer came into my shop and asked if I had any postcards with Birmingham buses on them and I told her that an American guy had bought all I had the day before. It was then that she told me her story.

The sequel was that I met him several times over the next few years. One year she would visit him in Detroit where he lived, the next he would come to visit her in Birmingham. Unfortunately he died during one of his visits and she flew to Detroit accompanying his remains.

P.S. As I own neither a mini skirt or handbag I am obviously not the computer fixer that FBG is referring to.

Re your unfortunate story R..Hmmm,that dont sound right, but you know what I means....

I have a cousin who was the last of 6 children. Now when he was conceived it was impossible for him to be my uncles as uncle was still alive but very incapable of doing anything due to a long illness, let alone conceive a child.
My cousin when older realised this but until his parents died asked no questions.
When he did ask the question of his mothers best friend/confidante(the only one who would have known his real fathers name everyone said)she refused point blank to tell him and yet said in the same sentence that she knew who it was and that my cousin looked very much like him and she took the answer with her to the grave ......Many have had an educated guess as to his identity and all come up with the same name but without DNA from one of his family it is not possible to know for sure now

Now that is wicked....

As Jonesey says ,never give up R,but I would not know where to start with Evans and Wales is rather larger than a lot of people seem to think...

Maybe I should start a thread

“Trying to find someone with the last name Evans, may or may not be my father, possibly in the armed forces who was stationed somewhere in Northern Ireland in 1943-1944. Don’t know how old he was, where he was born, possibly from Wales. My mother’s name was XXXXX XXXXXXXX, I was born xx/xxxx/1945, in XXXXXXXXXX. I have a brother (1/2 brother) 15 months older than I am born in a different location in Northern Ireland.”

Now that would be a challenge for all these great researchers.

It certainly would be......Even harder than trying to find Evelyns mother Diane.
And that has proved impossible so far...And not for the want of many people trying...

"Sorry that you and the judge cannot figure it out why anyone finds it appropriate to refer to women as "females". I always thought that was exactly what they were. Perhaps all those female voice choirs should be called womens voice choirs."

Perhaps "female" is a useful adjective, but demeaning when used as a noun to apply to human beings.

"Revert (Verb) To return to a previous state , practice, topic, etc."

And the verb takes a subject, as you gave it: the women reverted.

If you are fired, do you normally describe yourself as having reverted to being unemployed?

What.e.ver.

FBG ... Owens ... Evans ... you actually expect me to tell one Welshperson from another??

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 17 May 2011 18:03

jax - No.1 switched me from Norton (mine was old and expired anyhow) to AVG last year.

His main reason, apart from free-ness, was that Norton interferes hugely in your computer's operations, just sticking its nose into everything constantly and slowing everything down.

Janey,

Your comment regarding you needing to take a vacation? Did you mean a holiday?

Are we going to argue about semantics for evermore?
