Studiously ignoring Sweetpeas indignation at "unPC" words which only she has pointed out and as she says she is taking a vacation(holiday to us poor folk in GB) she wont be here to answer back anyway.. :P

Has anyone a good gluten free pastry recipe please?

Are spuds gluten free then?

Ingredients: to make ½ lb pastry

3 oz / 75g rice flour
½ tsp / 1g salt
6 oz / 150g cooked mashed potato
2 oz / 50g cornflour
4 oz / 100g butter or margarine
Do not add extra water.

These have gluten in as far as I can make out...Wheat,barley,oats and Rye.

But mashed spud in pastry???.....Sp*t

Bet that ready mix costs a fortune just like shop gluten free bread..£3.00 a tiny loaf here!

Did I mean a holiday? Being an atheist, might I have? Is there a holiday coming up that I don't know about? Victoria Day, indeed, is approaching.

Semantics ... "PC" ... no, sorry, the situation has nothing to do with any of those.

It is as demeaning to refer in those ways to someone's objection to demeaning terms as it is to use the demeaning terms in the first place.

Holiday/vacation are variations used in different cultures/places to refer to the same thing (not in all cases; I don't know how some people differentiate between a public holiday and an individual's vacation, but that's how we do it).

Demeaning terms for people who have historically suffered stereotyping and discrimination just aren't the same thing. And calling objections to those terms "PC" just joins in.

The question is: why do any of it?

Beats me.

Here are some terms that may help:

Strike out "half caste" and replace with "by-racial".
(edit because I actually can spell "bi-racial")

Strike out "coloured" and replace with black or, where appropriate, as in the case in question, African-American.

Strike out "PC" and replace with "sensitive" or "inclusive" or "polite".
