Probably have to do what they do on other sites (Rootschat and familytreeforum) ...................... give the details in "conversational form"!

Good grief Sylv...that would mean typing!

How can you do lookups from FMP Gins?You dont have a sub do you?Dont think you have as you ask for 1911 lookups sometimes...
I like FMP as it has the Address,occupation (except 1871)etc on it when printed off,not like Anc which you have to write things on after..But Anc do have far more records which is why I have both..
Gave up drinking to be able to have both...Wise move for my health I think..:)

Yeah, except people who copy and paste from FMP don't take the two seconds it takes to join up all the lines, delete the VIEW, and generally make the thing minimally comprehensible and not use up six monitor lengths to see it and wear out your mouse finger scrolling past it ...

Not that I have done any lookups recently as I have been VERY busy with DIY and other things...:)

I don't have fmp ................ but if gr institute the same t&c's, it won't matter which site you are using to get the info


we'll have to type it out



at least that will get rid of JC's bug bear!!

Today is David Suzuki's 75 th birthday


it's all over the news, special programs, etc etc



I really do NOT like that guy!!!








More importantly it is MY J's birthday ....... she's 37



It's also the 50th anniversary of my mother's death

he's a guy who does lots of programs (I thought world wide) on Nature, saving the environment etc etc

We get David Attenbrough..

We always phone on family birthdays



so OH phoned J this morning, then later phoned me to say she was at work (she'd been hoping to take the day off)


so I phone later ........ thought I'd got a wrong number. They've changed the name of the company since I last phoned her at work.



Anyway, she's going to take tomorrow off and have a real "me" day. MJ is being taken to daycare by his dad, and she can do whatever she wants from about 7 am until about 4 pm


I love that kind of day!

SO sad that your mother should have died on J's 13th birthday Sylvs !!

I have to say that I loved my parents and my grandparents but I could not for the life of me tell you the dates when they died !!

Personally, I intentionally block out the dates from my memory. - I don't want to sit there feeling sad on a particular day each year, I prefer to remember them as and when I do in a much happier way.

You and your J will not be able to do that.

I'm actually amazed that foreigners would not have heard of David Suzuki. He's, like, Canada's Al Gore ... probably never heard of him either ... except that Suzuki invented green.

How can you have such strong feelings about him, Silly?

I just find it all so depressing I'm amazed he hasn't killed himself, let alone how he always looks so happy.


Didn't FMP pitch a fit a couple of years ago and start counting the number of searches people did and send them warnings? There were threads about it here.

The same company owns this site and FMP, so what a bind for them. If people can't use searches for the help boards, bye bye help boards.

I'm kind of amazed that this place doesn't seem to have crossed Ancestry's radar ever, given how other places don't allow the kind of copyright violations we engage in hourly here. ;)

I never knew my Grandparents, I was born 30 + years after they had died...never even knew their names

J was born 13 years AFER Mum died


I was in my second year at uni



I do the same as you .... I cut out the date when someone close dies. I can remember the month and the year, but never the date. It isn't intentional, it's just what happens.


I didn't in fact connect the 2 events until a cousin sent me a photo of Mum's headstone when J was about 16 .................. I just sat and looked open mouthed.

When OH began working at the university here in Botany, Suzuki was still in Zoology

Then he began to take leaves of absence, wouldn't officially resign from the uni for many years (about 10, if I remember correctly), leaving them hamstrung for getting a proper replacement for him

OH was one of the ones who had to try ot pick up some of that mess


There are quite a few people from that era who dislike Suzuki



oh yes ................ and he never acknowledges OH or myself when he sees us, although he had quite a lot of contact with OH around 1970-ish, and has met me. We're not important enough, you see!



he is really not as nice a man as he shows publicly
