I do not want my tree on Ancestry ---- but according to my FTM 2011 --- when you register for Ancestry free trial ---

FTM goes off in the background -- to Ancestry and looks for "leaves" or some such -- which are apparently hints or suggestions for people to add to your tree

And it also says that I can make my tree "private " ------which gob smacked me somewhat --- and continued on saying when a tree is private only the DOB place --poss parents as JC says ----------well that doe not seem private to me

I am assuming as FTM is running off to Ancestry for those "leaves" I am assuming Ancestry is running back with "leaves" to other Ancestry users

Have now emailed FTM -------------------to clarify

Other people can go and get their own "leaves" and leave mine on my tree

I had a wonderful post office set -- with John Bull stamping set --- with a red green and blue pad -------for my different forms

I loved it -----use to set out all my stampers --- on the lids of each colour ink pad

Renes, if you access Ancestry through FTM your tree cannot be viewed by anyone unless you upload it to the website. It remains on your computer. You still get the leaves suggesting hints but mark it as private non searchable in settings as every so often it asks would you like to publish online

I'm biting my tongue Jax. One minute he/she is new to genealogy, next he/she is an expert. I'm going to leave um to it.

Renes - I have the 2005 version of FTM - I only have my tree on there - NOT on Ancestry !!

When I do a web search via the FTM , because I am a member of Ancestry it does link up to various results on there BUT I have never entered my tree on Ancestry and never will so no-one will have access.

I keep it only on my FTM.

I think that is what you want to do?

There is no need to put your tree on Ancestry!

Come off it Gins....you ain't that young!! Can't remember John Bull indeed...

.............little fat man with a union flag waistcoat....the very epitomy of Britain apparently!

You'll have to ask Fans about hieroglyphics cos she makes the papyrus in her spare time.

jax Report 25 Mar 2011 19:31

All this talk of Gedcoms and uploading is all lost on me.

Well at least I can now transfer a photo from the puter onto FB.

I was trying to find out when those printings sets were invented, not much luck only that I saw that someone had one as a child over 70 years ago

Dea Report 25 Mar 2011 20:01

Loses me also Ja....x.

I 'sort of' know what a gedcom is but I have to admit that when I started my tree on my FTM, I didn't upload it from here - I entered it manually, name by name and added all the details 'by hand' .

Rather 'long-winded' when one looks at what others do but that is the way I felt I could do it !!

Sad or what ???
