Silly people. I sit cross-legged on the chesterfield, sideways, with one of those lap trays (with styrofoam beans in a big pouch underneath to level it) in front of me, and a cutting board (that fits it perfectly) on that, bowls for chopped veg and compost bits on the coffee table. Or sit in the armchair with the lap tray on my lap. Beats killing your back chopping in a boring kitchen for two hours. My mum has a big coffee with the half that pops up to eating-table height, and that works well too.

Gorgeous cherry blossoms, Silly. I'm sure they're plastic, though. You people out there would do that, just to snigger behind your hands.

It's sunny and freezing, here, but the snow is going really fast, from yesterday to today a big patch of my garden has cleared, and growing things can be seen. It is an amazement every year.

Toots -- or Anyone who know s

I have purchased FTM with 6 months free to Ancestry

( to try and find any more info of the last of my missing peeps - I want to finish my tree -- do my album and send it to everyone before the end of the year -- )

Reading the bump before I load up a GEDCOM -- says that with the Ancestry link -- even if my tree is private ---Ancestry members see people (DOB place etc ) but have to contact me for more info - cert copies etc

Which is basically exactly the same here

Can this be correct !!!

Renes they have two types of private. One which shows up in searches and one that doesn't. Mine is private and shows up in searches but I have no living people and very few photos on my online trees so have no problem with anyone showing up in searches. You can send invites to open your tree to family and contacts.

I share only when a relationship is established, just like on here.

Renes

Renes Report 25 Mar 2011 17:22

Thanks Toots

as you are aware -- I keep my tree private as have living people on it ( for the benefit of family in Denmark Australia and France )

I therefore do not want any info coming up in search -----

Is that done on FTM --- or on Ancestry

should add I have not asked for my GEDCOM yet or activated the Ancestry trial yet Toots

What I was hoping to achieve is -- my tree on my hard drive with no access what so ever --- but to be able to search Ancestry for my
"lost souls"

Thanks Toots x

Lol

I wanted a proper print facility for my albums ---- I actually love working on my GR tree it --- it is logical and goes from top to bottom --- am not to keen on the pedigree type -- ie going L to R

Unfortunately the print facility is ----well --- actually here is no a facility to print -- as there are no options

How did I know somebody was going to say something about being old and sitting cross-legged? How did I know who it would be? I've never sat flat on a chair in my life. ;) My father used to pitch fits because when I sat down for supper I'd slide into my chair behind the table with my right foot underneath me and sit like that. Years later, I'd bought a 50s dining set I loved, wood chairs with pink and turquoise covered vinyl seats and backs, backs on two flat curved wood uprights attached under the seat. One day I slid into one with my foot under me, and snapped the back off.

What's a plug in shock wave? One of those things I refuse to have, I think. ;)

Ancestry trees -- yes -- search results show the basic info in the private tree (name, dob, and I think parents) but to see the tree you have to ask permission.

Very private, eh?

I lay down on my sofa with one of those trays you mentioned with laptop sitting nicely on it JC

Ancestry does have the option for the same sort of layout as GR...I prefer the L to R thats why I dont use my GR tree Renes

Dea Report 25 Mar 2011 18:26

Renes, I don't know why you have to load your gedcom onto Ancestry at all - why not just upload it onto FTM so that is only on your hard-drive and nowhere else. You will still be able to use Ancestry for looking for people.

I use Ancestry and FTM but do not have a tree or any other details on Ancestry.

Am I misunderstanding something here, or am I just a bit 'thick' ?? (I can already imagine some of the answers I am going to get to that question) !!
