Fiona Report 1 Dec 2014 10:24

Morning Jane, Hi Everyone, Evening Kim, :-D :-D

Another gray and damp day,

Well as Jane said it's December already,!!!, now it will be bedlam, big count down til the 25,

Just got told last night that I am going to see the Pantomime Cinderella with Sofia on the 2 Jan, Victoria had planned to take her, and I would babysit Matteo BUT, no it's GRAN & POPCORN ONLY:-D :-D , am I a lucky gran or not ;-) Victoria thought it would be better after Christmas, it will be quieter and will be something for Sofia to look forward to when all the excitement has died down

Well Victoria & Daniele took the kids to see Santa yesterday, down the Clyde valley at Dobb*es. Sofia sat on Santa's knee( :-S Thought they had stopped doing that ) but Matteo had to be carried in to the Christmas grotto, and pulled the usual frown & pet lip when he saw Santa, :-) It is difficult to do anything through the week now that Sofia is at school. She is in for a busy time from now on, parties and 1st year Nativity , Victoria and I am taking shifts on the Nativity day, Victoria to watch the play in the morning , I'll babysit, and then I'll go to school to see it in the afternoon,

Jane Report 1 Dec 2014 10:50

I can't go anywhere at the moment as the van in blocking me in so I have just ordered some outdoor lights to go on the box trees at the front door.I've never had outdoor light before. They are battery ones with a timer .Fingers crossed they work ok.
I gather a Kissing Bunch is Mistletoe Liz :-D.You romantic things you :-D :-D

Fiona I love a good old Panto.I went a few years ago with my neighbour to see Aladdin .Barbra Windsor was Aladdin and i thought she was hopeless. But the rest was a hoot.

There is a lot of banging and tapping going on and what sounds like cutting.I don't think it will be that long before the carpet is actually down.Chris is up and down like a YoYo watching out for the next van.He gets all of a fidget with all the comings and goings lol.
Mmm I wonder what else I can look at on line to buy :-D :-D.I'll have another gander.

Frank thankyou for your India pics :-D

Hi Fiona! Good morning to you too!!!
Have been having a look on Amazon (while making soup!) and there are some fantastic bargains particularly on the book front!! I've bought two for a fraction of the original price, so that's me set up for week or so!!
Gosh Jane, you're a busy bee! You won't know yourself in your new smart residence!
More washing to go onto the clothes horse, so better get on!!

Fiona Report 1 Dec 2014 11:07

I remember when my girls were little and they did a dance show or nativity at church the first thing they did when they came on stage was to look for mum & dad give them a wave then they were happy to carry on singing or dancing :-D :-D

Jane, when I was little and we used to come up to Scotland for Christmas, my papa would treat all his family , plus 7 grandchildren on Boxing day to the pantomime in Glasgow, wow this was a big treat , sweets/ Ice cream etc,

Frank Report 1 Dec 2014 11:31

I've done it again. Twice this morning knocked the mouse on the floor and lost everything. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Romantic Jane?! Well, maybe once upon a time!!! but now, more like wishful thinking!!! or in your dreams!!!!
I always went to the Pantomime after Christmas in Oxford years ago with my parents, and we all continued this with my two when they were little. Some years it was better than others, but we always enjoyed it.
Have sorted through the decs so feel that I've made a start! Feel a bit more Christmassy today, hope it lasts!!!

Half the porch roof is off and the builder went off for some wood while his mate painted some woodworm stuff on the wood already up there.

The sun came out this morning after I posted but before that going around the garden doing bits and bobs my hands got freezing.

Must get some lunch now. Oh has had his two deliveries early this morn ing so they are out the way. Now he is playing with his new toy in the caravan!!! A scroll saw.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Dec 2014 13:11

I was always taken to a panto after Christmas as a child. The only one I remember going to was at The London Paladium but I can't remember whcih one it was after all these years.

When we lived in Suffolk the village always put on a panto. I would'nt be in it!!!

Frank

Frank Report 1 Dec 2014 13:40

Well I'll try again !!!

Liz, I know what you mean, the mind is strong but the body is far to weak. :-D :-D :-D It's nice to have the memories. <3 <3 <3 Still it's nice you still go to the trouble.

Fiona, You bought back so many "HAPPY MEMORIES" of my eldest sister and her husband, who would take us FIVE youngest children to either an ICE SHOW or a Panto. every Boxing Day. They always had bags of tangerines and sweets. (where they got them from I never knew) as it was 1946 and everything was so scarce. It was such a treat to get away from my parents.

Ann, If you are going to H. Sense then you should be alright. Just try to stay away from the Town Centre. Where most of the road works are. If you need the best directions just let me know. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Oh we nearly had a accident yesterday. Ros did the washing down of the worktops and gas hob after I had washed up. Unbeknown to her she had caught a knob on the cooker and turned it on. It was about THREE HOURS later I went into the kitchen and smelt gas, It's a good job that neither of us smoked or there were no naked lights, or we could have been blown to pieces :-D :-D :-D

How's the carpet laying going Jane,??? You should send Chris. to the summer house out of the way till it's all done !!!

What's a scroll saw Mel, ???

I have been sweeping up after the hog this morning. There is more food under his cover than you would believe. I must be putting to much down for him, all he seems to be doing is nosing it out of his dish. !!!

Real horrible day out there today. Damp and dark but not very cold. But it's nice to have a bit of heat on.

When in infants school I was one of the Three Wise Men, Do you remember the song,

We three kings of Orient are, bearing gifts we travel so far. ???

Just thinking of dinner tonight, I think it will be beef warmed up in gravy, with Mediterranean roasted veg. and potato wedges. (in one of my tin trays) so no washing up to speak of.

The soup was delicious (though I say it myself!!) so we shouldn't need too much more in the way of food today. Nothing much doing this week. Friend coming to lunch on Thursday, and the Hygienist on Friday. A real dismal doris of a day and almost getting dark!!
Yes, we do still bother now and again Frank, but like you say, most of the time we're just too bl***y knkd!!!!
Heavens Frank! That was nearly very nasty! Surely the gas taps are child proof which should make it impossible to turn them on by mistake. I know this because Laura has gas and hers are quite difficult to turn on. Perhaps you need to check that they are in fact safe!
Having a look at these books this pm, Ian has gone down to the surgery to make an appointment with the Nurse for his 6 monthly check up, then he will come back and probably have a snooze in the chair while I read, talk about Derby and Joan!!!

Frank Report 1 Dec 2014 14:39

I meant to say !!!

I had a great buy from Amazo#. Ros and Conrad wanted to buy me a new Kindl#, so I looked on A and found a fire HDX with a saving of £150.00. While I was getting that I also bought the cover and stand. Now I will need to find books to load onto it. Do you have to buy them, or can you load them off the computer, ???? I have loads in my store. but don't know if they are compatible with the FIRE HXD. What have you got Jane ???

I have prepared the dinner, just as I said we would have.

I can just imagine you in your new BED tonight. All tucked down on your new mattress. Lets hope it's comfortable. What type is it ???

Just sorting through all my cards, can't forget any of you, or my name will be MUD !!!!

Ros is busy making a necklace and ear rings for herself. She hasn't got enough ;-) ;-) ;-) Her necklace stand can't take much more weight, or it will collapse. :-0 :-0 :-0.

I see that Doctor who molested those poor children has been given 22 years. He should be made to serve every minute in a goal full of harden Criminals, who would make him feel at home !!!!

Liz, It fatal for me to get to comfy in the armchair in the afternoon, or I am off like a light, and have to stay up later at night or I wouldn't sleep, even after my" sleeper"

I was awake again last night with the Bloo#y CRAMP Not only down the back of my legs but that muscle that runs down the side of the shin. I must have got out to the bathroom floor at least FOUR TIMES. Somewhere I have some CRAMP tablets, I must dig those out before tonight. My legs feel as though I have been kicked by a donkey.

I've got Kindle fire HDX Frank and I love it! I buy books from Amazon which automatically loads them. You can borrow books on I as well, I've never done that, but I've a friend who does, and it works a treat. I use my kindle for most things now, email's, research, genes, buying from A etc, and I use my laptop less and less. I don't know about transferring books from another tablet as all mine were on my original Kindle Reader and they were automatically downloaded onto my new one on request. It takes a little while to get used to it, but once you do it's excellent!!

Frank there is no Mattress until WEDNESDAY.That is coming from Caswells in Kettering. The bed arrived as the carpet men were nearly done so that worked out ok.
We have got the bed up ,2 big chests of drawers ,the bedside drawers and lamps.
You should have seen the 2 of us trying to get the big drawers up the stairs !!!!!!!!!!
I think the wardrobes will have to wait until James gets home tonight as I don't think I am going to be able to manage them.It is all looking good now.I must ring Dunel* to get a definite date for the curtains .They did say the 8th but I haven't heard for sure.

Oh Frank how scary was that with the gas :-0 :-0 :-0
Remember when I set fire to my hessian shopping bag ??? That was when the handle on my mop knocked the electric hog knob with out me realising.I had to throw the dog out into the garden as the smoke was so bad and flames from the bag were right up under the extractor fan.

No we can't do the wardrobes so ,I have lit the fire and have made us a nice cuppa.
I do need to wipe out all the drawers they are all covered in cream paint dust. But I think i will wait until tomorrow when everything is up and then all can be done at the same time :-D
Right TEA :-D

I think we've all had near misses with accidents in the home Jane!! I can remember when we were first married ironing a nylon blouse at a medium temperature!!!!!! Also which was much worse and again in Ian's Navy days when we were in a rented house, I can remember trying to get an open fire to draw and I used this tapestry fire shield thing instead of bellows, the next thing I knew it had (unsurprisingly) burst into flames!!! Luckily Ian was at home, and as his job was crash and rescue on Aircraft Carriers and Naval Air Stations, he was able to put the fire out without too much damage being caused, but I think these accidents do concentrate the mind. I've never done it again!!!!
No mattress Jane! what a pest! still Wednesday isn't that far away and it does sound as if your refurbishments are, as they say. a proper job!!
Thanks Jane for the info about Kim!! what a pretty name, I must send her a quick email!!
Time for a cuppa!!!

Talking of accidents (well I am) :-D :-D When we moved into out first new home in 1960 my ex was doing some chips in the frying pan. It caught fire, so she opened the back door and threw it out. It set light to the fence between the neighbours and ours. The smoke damage to the kitchen was very bad, and it set light to the curtains and bugg##ed the cooker.

Ros had a nasty accident when we lived at Gayton. She put the oven on (so she thought) but had put the grill on, inside that was a tray of oil. That caught fire, and she screamed for the garage owner next door who came round with extsingusers (sp) That completely ruined the whole kitchen, We had to have a complete kitchen refit including units, fridge and flooring.

Fancy you dragging BIG DRAWS up the stairs Jane :-D :-D :-D I bet they are heavy ;-) ;-) ;-). I knew Caswells quite well in the 60s Never knew they were still in business. Where are the situated now ??

I have just returned the cover/stand to Amerzo# it cost £24.99 instead of £54.99. But when you look on ebay you can get almost the same thing for less than a FIVER.

Jane Report 1 Dec 2014 17:20

FRank Caswells is still on Stamford/Montague Rd,but their bedding dept is in Regent St.
All my lounge furniture (except the settees) are from Caswells.Drapers is still going too.I bet you remember them also.
Yes it was quite a job getting those drawers up the stairs especially around the bend.We have got the back of one wardrobe up but the rest is just too heavy for me to help Chris. So it is the boy's job tonight.Maybe not all 3 wardrobes.I hope we measured up correctly for them all !!!!My bed side lampshades and the main light shade look a bit too blue but I am hoping that when the curtains are up they will blend better.I'll just have to wait and see..it will be the 9th not the 8th now when they will be fitted.
Poor Chris's knees were giving him bother on the stairs and it was my thumb joints killing me.I think there will be a few paracetamols and Ibuprofen taken tonight lol

All these accidents at home. Its quite frightening. But you can see how easy these things can happen.I remember one day my dads Swan Vesta Matches caught light in his trouser pocket. He used to light his pipe and then put the dead match in the back of the box.I can still see him now in the garden slapping his thigh and trying to get the box out.I won't repeat what Mum was calling him lol
My Sister also burnt her arm on the iron when she was little .She had the pattern of the
plate on her arm for ages !!!.Luckily no long term damage :-D

There is so much packaging with all this furniture and so much little polystyrene beads :-S :-S.My new hoover is going to be VERY busy.

Evening All,

Congratulations to Kim and her family on the birth of Sophie!! <3 <3

Well, we did risk going to Northampton and decided to call in for a Morri*sons brekkie on the way to miss the rush hour. OH couldn't believe how long the M1 roadworks were and said 'thank goodness I'm not still travelling to Luton every day!!' :-) You were right Frank, no problem getting to H Sense, despite a few roadworks nearby and they are still working on the old gasometer site nearby. I bought a pretty glass leaf dish to drop my car keys in. They have some nice glass things there, but I was a bit disappointed with their Christmas decs for sale this year. Usually they have some very different nice things, but not this time.

Then we went to Canon's Ashby to see their Victorian Christmas. As we went across the carpark to the lady at the kiosk, a man drove by us from the front and then nearly hit OH by reversing into him from behind us. The kiosk lady said she thought OH was a gonner. We did the tour with guides in costume which was very interesting, but there was only one small Christmas Tree as the people in costume played different parts to explain what a Victorian Christmas was like. I was expecting it to be like Chatsworth that has oodles of Christmas trees and decorations. lol. We came home via the A5 so we wouldn't get held up on the M1.

I got OH some caterpillar stickshift? shoes for footie the other day and was pleased that they were 30% off as they are about £99 normally. I then had a look on line and found them £20 cheaper still!! :-S So I'm taking them back to the shop tomorrow and will order them online :-)

Jane

Jane Report 1 Dec 2014 18:53

Ann ,is it not worth us going to Canons Ashby to see the Christmas things? It is a long way to go if it isn't looking that festive. We have done the tour of the house so wouldn't want to do that again so soon.Maybe we will give it a miss.
That was a close call for Gordon !!!! What on earth are Stickshift shoes????
Chris is waiting for James now.He is late home :-S..So dinner will be on hold until that 1 wardrobe is upstairs lol

I hope the opening of my Niece's shop went well today. Her window display is really good,so hopefully will draw people in.I am not convinced it will work long term but really hope it does. She has put a lot of thought and effort into it and my Sister has worked her socks off to help with the decorating of the shop to get it ready in time, even making over 100 fairy cakes and doing Canopies for yesterday when all friends and family were invited for a pre opening do.
