Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jul 2018 19:34

I would have thought it would be cool on the underground if they went by train.

I threw myself on the bed at 20 to 4 and slept till 6 pm. Very unusual for me to sleep during the day. Hav'nt done anything outside today except feed the bantams and chickens this morning and corned them jus t now. This heat certainly takes it out of you. I pulled the legs of my thin trousers up when I lay on the bed and think I have caught the sun through the window! They feel a bit prickly.

Jane Report 8 Jul 2018 19:34

Evening All
Oh my what another hot one today. It was nice to get home really away from the heat of London. Every Park and Green space we passed were packed with families having picnics and BBQs.Many under the shade of big trees. We decided to leave the car at H&Gs flat and get a taxi to the Pub as Chris knew the way home from the flat. Then after we had finished lunch and then sat out in the little courtyard garden for some cooling drinks we left H,G and James and got a taxi back to pick the car up.James is on the way home now on the train. He got held up at Luton station ths morning for an hour(not sure why) and a young girl on the platform passed out from the heat.James said he called for someone to get some water and looked after her until she felt ok. He said she had a Cello with her. That must have been some weight to carry .
Then when he met Hannah they went ot Brick Lane and the Flower Market before meeting up with us and Gareth at the Pub. The Roast dinners were GINORMOUS and far too big to eat .It was delicious though but such a shame there was so much waste. They just do Roasts on Sundays as many places do. I had my fan and spray and both were used by us all :-D :-D
I have sent a pic .But it doesnt do it justice really .I think it is going to be a great venue for the wedding reception :-D

Love the Jay Mel.Poor thing must have been so hot. I have not seen a Jay doing that before. It is normally the Blackbirds here.
Mel Chris loved the Card and said he was impressed :-D :-D

Frank, maybe little Lenny only does Bullets :-D. Have asked Jo what his usual ones are like? As long as he is doing something I wouldn't worry too much as long as he isnt straining.
Thomas has just turned up and flopped straight out under the patio table. He has had none of the food or treats I left in the summerhouse today.
Gill ,that is nice that you have met both of the new people now and nice that they are are a friendly couple. Shocking that the builder has left them in such a mess. Fingers crossed some of your contacts will be able to help out there.

Mandy I can just picture the childre nracing round and round in the pool to get it all swirling :-D :-D What fun :-D. I hope you have had your turn now.

Chris has gone a bit quiet . He has to have 2 teeth out in the morning and I can tell he is beginning to get a bit worried. So I will tread carefully this evening :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jul 2018 19:46

Poor Chris its not nice thinking about your visit to the dentist. I think a lot of it is just worry as when I had mine out I did'nt feel a thing. When she asked me if I could feel this, she prodded my gum I said yes so she gave me a bit more of the injection. I am the biggest baby when having teeth out so give Chris my regards and I shall be thinking of him. Glad he liked the card. The place looks amazing from t he photo you sentand you all look really happy. Did Hannah take the picture as she was'nt in it?

Jane

Jane Report 8 Jul 2018 20:45

Yes Hannah took the pic Mel.I didn't get one with her in them today. It was too hot to bother anyone and ask them to take a pic.
The Underground is NEVER cool Mel which I why I never like to go on it.Plus it is normally crowded and I find it claustrophobic. It is a hot and sweaty place and not pleasant. We find using Uber Cabs such good value and they are nice cars with aircon . For example today. the ride from the flat to the pub which wasn't too far in miles but 20 minutes journey only cost £9 and the same again back to the flat to our car. Here if we got a taxi from our house to the Train Station in Town that would be maybe £15 or more for just less than 2 miles !!!! We have an Uber App on our mobile phones and you just put in where you want picking up and where too and it will tell you a cab in the areas will be there within so many minutes. It was just one minute when we booked from the pub !!!!! How good is that.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jul 2018 21:14

That sounds like a very good service Jane and cheap too.

I know aumty Joy gets a cab to go home from the town and it costs her £6 pounds I thinkmaybe more. She has told me but I have forgotten. Its only east the water and up the hill and can't be more than a mile and a half. Thats why I always give her a lift home if we meet in Morrisons or I see her in the high st.

I found an old half crown this afternoon while looking for something else. Its a Victoria Jubilee one and is silver dated 1887 and in quite good condition. Not worth much though.

Frank

Frank Report 8 Jul 2018 21:24

Glad you had a nice day Jane. When I think back to the years I traveled on the underground, it makes your mind boggle !!!

I expect all you are watching Poldark. I have been warning the green and greenhouse. Ross hard work looks very nice, she has cleared the bed under the front hedge and replanted it with lots of new plants, that are in full bloom.

I'm just having a cold beer, then a shower and to bed, see you tomorrow.

Jane

Jane Report 8 Jul 2018 21:33

Mel when my Aunty Joyce used to go to the Pannier Market in Bideford(on a Tuesday? ) she would get a taxi from Northam where she lived. Probably not too many buses.
That was an interesting old Half Crown you found today.Have you been rooting through things? Shame it isn't worth much :-S. I think when we discover something old we think it is going be worth more than we imagine it would be :-S

I have just seen the time 9.30 already !!. Chris has just gone up to bed.I will leave it long enough to make sure he is out for the count before I go up (so not to disturb him)

I bet Anne is having a lovely time down in Dorset now :-D

Gillx Report 9 Jul 2018 07:45

Morning all

We have some clouds around today, quite big ones too, but I doubt it'll rain.

OH has just gone to the tip, there's only one load this morning because we stopped working around 11.30 yesterday morning, it was so hot. He's off to his mates today so I'll be working on OH's family tree again today while Ancestry have their records open. I found a few more people last night but only a marriage and two children for one of them, after that all four of them have disappeared. I tried everything I could think of to find them but gave up in the end :-S :-S :-S :-S

Good luck to Chris at the dentist today Jane, hope he managed some sleep and didn't lie there worrying. I don't think many people like the dentist do they, especially having fillings or teeth out, I know I don't? Lovely picture you sent, pity it wasn't one with all of you on, but like you said it was to hot to bother someone.

Love the card Mel, where did you get the lace it's lovely?

I haven't watched any of the Poldark programmes yet Frank, I've been recording them so will probably watch them all in one go when it's finish. I record lots of programmes which Sandra likes to watch so I haven't had time to watch the programmes I like yet. I might just set a day aside and settle down to watch the whole series when Sandra has things she wants to watch as she normally takes a whole day to get through things she has recorded on her planner.

Going to get a cuppa then take another look at OH's tree, I might see if I can find this woman's sister travelling somewhere, it might give me a clue as the whether she's moved away so I know where to look for further information on her. If that doesn't work then I'll have to leave her. It's funny I can't find her husband or children after they were born either though. Mind you saying that I only have her husband's name not a year or place of birth for him yet. Hopefully I'll find something today.

Good morning Gill and All,

Was up at 5.15 am ro open the door to the conservatory. LENNY had already peed on the puppy mat. Ros had let them out at Midnight, so he didn't hold it long, did he. ??
There's a few clouds about, but I think they will burn off fairly quickly, and leave us with another hot day.

Must ring the DRS. this morning, about my X RAY results , they are taking their time sending them from the hospital, i will be three weeks on Wednesday since I had them done.

Good luck for Chris today, I will be thinking of him. Ahhh.Ohhh.

Another cot is needed, so will se you latter

Morning all you early birds,

Another blinder this morning. Oh is sorting through his pipe connections as he did an emergwency repair on the water pipe outside the kitchen in the winter when it fraoze and burst. He is going to build a housing aroun the pipe there to keep the frost off then he can paint the bottom of the bungalow there in the green ivy paint.

Gill the lace was from Jane's wedding dress which is 37 years old.

I must get on and do the chickens etc as I have been writing to Ann.

Its hot here already today. I don't think anyone could complain about not having a good summer this year.........just wish it was a little less hot. Its alright for some though. I wish I had'nt given the boys next door the swimming pool we bought for the fish when oh did the pond.

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 9 Jul 2018 10:13

We were up at 5.30 this morning so as to get all our outdoor jobs done before breakfast. It's so much easier during this hot weather so we shall do it everyday now till the weather changes! Merlin was fed and out, the yard cleaned, the watering done and the field cleaned (on the days it needs doing) all by 8.00. After breakfast OH took Cas for her walk while I cleared up, made the bed etc! Now OH has gone out for bits and bobs, and I've done a bit of weeding!! The rest of the day we shall just pickle!
Glad you enjoyed your day Jane. You're right about the underground!!! I remember when I used to go to London quite a lot to stay with family/friends it was stifling in summer and always claustrophobic! but it got you round quickly and cheaply so was worth a bit of discomfort!
Must do the windows with 'fly pen' -again!! These thunder bugs are horrid!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 9 Jul 2018 10:34

Oh I see Mel, it's a beautiful card, you've done a great job.

How lovely Jane to have a card made with some of the lace off your wedding dress, that'll be a card they'll treasure. What time is Chris at the dentist has he been yet? Hope all goes well and his mouth's not to sore later.

We had the same idea as you Liz about getting up earlier and doing the outside jobs before it goes to hot. OH is out all day today, but tomorrow will be an early start. If we do a bit each morning before it goes to hot then the front garden should be sorted in no time. There are a lot of clouds around today. At one point I thought it was going to rain, the clouds were that black, but no rain so far. It does seem strange though, seeing clouds again.

Oh dear Frank, another accident with Lenny, you're right it doesn't look like he can hold himself for long. Did you get anywhere ringing the doctors about your X ray results? You know what they say "No news is good news" so I wouldn't worry to much. The doctor would of been in touch if it was serious. Mind you a phone call would put your mind at rest.

Well, I'm plodding on with OH's family tree but don't seem to be getting very far. I might try adding people to someone else, I'm fed up of going around in circles with this part of the tree, hopefully I'll get a bit further with another person.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Jul 2018 12:18

Just having a nice COC. Boy its hot out there. Oh is changing the outside tap, well one we have out there as he put a new one round by his big pond ages ago and it will make it easier to box the other pipes in.

Frank Report 9 Jul 2018 12:38

Afternoon you lot lol lol.

Carolyn rang just after 9.00 am. They got back from Whitby onThursday evening after going with a couple who had never been up there. By the sound of things, words had been said between the chap and John. I don't wonder, that John upset someone. It's quite usual ;-) ;-) ;-)

The girls have gone shopping for some bits, and Ros has to go and find the shop that sells the dog food. It's called NUTRIMENT CORE. There are only THREE stockists in Northampton. Jo, just didn't pack enough food for LENNY. He has three meals a day, while JJ has only two.

I haven't been able to get through to the Drs. (ENGAGED) i would be easier to speak to the POPE lol lol Will try again this afternoon.

I have been siting in the shade of the big bush reading. with Lenny laying by my side. JJ is flat out on the kitchen floor. in fact Lenny has just joined him.

Cold beef for tonight, with either roasted Mediterranean vegetables or salad. I will leave it for Ros to decide.

I must see if I can find some room in the neighbours Green Bins. Ours if full to the brim, and there are two black bags and two Garden Bins full sitting in the drive. The green BIN from the deceased lady two doors down, has been lock away, behind her gates. otherwise I would use that. How inconsiderate of the person who has done that. ;-) ;-) ;-)

It's getting cloudy out, but very HUMID. Not sure if we could get rain or not. It would be nice to cool things down a bit.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 9 Jul 2018 13:47

Afternoon all,

Bit of cloud here this morning but it's still so humid ,i think it might be a bit cooler tomorrow which will be good as we're out to lunch with sister and BIL .

Jane those Uber Cabs sound really good value ,i bet the old black cabs would be a lot more money .
The pub looks nice ,i like all the hanging greenery .
Hope Chris got on ok today at the dentist .

Gill it will do your OH good to have a day of rest after all that digging in the heat ,he doesn't want to hurt his back again either.

Poor little Lenny ,i expect he's a bit unsettled as to where he has to go now he's in a strange home ,the heat might be upsetting him too .
It sounds as if that John has met his match with some one telling him what they think and him not getting his own way .

Max spends most of the day on the cool kitchen tiles or he goes in his crate ,when the children come i put him in his crate as he would get so hot playing out with them .

Bunnyboo Report 9 Jul 2018 16:26

Materials were delivered at lunchtime so OH has been able to get on and cut the strips needed to put in place of the plywood OH has removed. Tomorrow he can crack on with fitting them with the help of some bitumen, J.D. job done!!
It's been a grand day here, Cas has been in and out of her water tub, wallowing!! She's now lying out on the grass in the sun!! OH has made a very welcome cuppa so we'll sit and have that and contemplate what we're doing this evening as we hardly watch TV at the moment as apart from sport:-( and Poldark! It's such rubbish that at times we wonder why we've got it!!

Frank

Frank Report 9 Jul 2018 16:33

Mandy, I can well understand that MAX wouldn't want to play with the children this weather. These two just want to lay in the cool. I have been in he garden in the shade reading and Lenny has been lying under the lounger on the cool grass.

Would you believe it's Conrads 49th Birthday today, and as yet w haven't rung him. We have both been busy, Ros bought more plants back from shopping this morning/afternoon. She came in, got changed and went in the front garden planting.

I have prepared a dish of various vegetables and covered them in that roasted mix stuff ready for the oven, for when we feel like eating, which I think will be late evening. That will also be the time to water the greenhouse and borders.

Hope everything went well for Chris. at the dentist, and the feeling has come back in his mouth.

Pam and Tracy have been in to see Lenny, I will have to keep an eye on him, or I can see him being KIDNAPPED lol lol.

Still very, very heavy outside. The breeze seems to be getting up, but whether that means RAIN, is another thing.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 9 Jul 2018 16:48

Really clouded up here but still muggy .
Frank what is the roasted mix stuff you put on your veg ? we like our roasted veg so I'd like to try it .

Happy birthday to Conrad .

So its all go now the materials have arrived Liz ,sounds as if Cas loves cooling off in her water bath.

Just made an Apple cake ,that won't last long tonight as the children are usually ravenous when they've had a swim.

Jane

Jane Report 9 Jul 2018 17:54

Afternoon All from a very hot and sticky me :-S. Its been unbearable again today and there seems no way at all to get cool.It will be another shower for me soon.
The freezer has gone on the blink again :-S But now I think I know the reason why. I looked it up on line. It is because it is in the garage and with this heat and no free flowing air in there (plus my dryer) the compressor has had ot be working over time and just conks out. That all makes sense really. So we will now just keep ice cubes in there until the weather gets back to normal .I have lost a bit more food again today :-( :-( It the cubes melt then thats fine. But I am not risking any more food.

Chris had his toothy pegs out and they came out no bother ,as they were already loose. His face looks a little swollen ,and there is no more bleeding. The anaesthetic has worn off and he was after the paracetamol just now as he said his face feels like it has been kicked by a cow !! He had a couple of Weetabix for lunch and will have a cottage pie tonight.

All go your end then Liz now everthing has arrived. I just hope it cools done a bit for Ian. Cas sounds cool enough in her little bath
:-D

Happy Birthday to Conrad <3 He is still a very young man :-D

At least little Lenny is using the Puppy Pads Frank and not wetting any carpets !!.

Mandy those Uber Cabs are really good. But they aren't everywhere . We certainly don't have them here.I think they are mainly in big cities.
That Greenery in the Pub was from a Wedding the day before I think. Hannah and Gareth will have there own up there. There was so much on the wires yesterday that it made it droop too low. Tall people had to duck.

Oh when it is going to cool down??? There is one heck of a breeze but it is a hot one.
Thomas came in miaowing just now so `i put some cat milk and a little wet food and he just looked at it and went back out and flopped out again :-(. I think he has actually lost quite a bit of weight. Why hasn't that happened to me :-S

We had a letter from our electricity company this morning and they are coming at the end of the month to cut the hedge behind Merlins stable, OHs workshop and the machine shed, as its got very tall and thick and is far to close to the electricity pole and lines! We're really pleased as its saved OH a job, and will open up the lovely view over the fields at the back.
They seem to be getting those boys out of the cave- thank goodness for that!!
