Oh poo! I forgot to get Chestnuts :-S :-S..You just reminded me there Maureen......I'm not going to go out just for them so we will do without.
I am often the one who stays up to see the New Year in when Chris is well in the land of nod.
The Christmas tree is smelling very strong today. It is making my nose and ears all itchy. :-S

I just spotted the Squirrel sitting and munching away IN the window feeder.Naughty Squirrel.I stood up to try and get a pick but it is just a big furry blob.

We had the thickest frost yet here this morning....white over all the garden. Yes, I think once Boxing Day is over it doesn't feel like Christmas anymore and the decorations look 'different' and not as uplifting. After tomorrow I shall start taking ours down and then the big tree which takes longest on Saturday. What is the name of the pantomime you and Sofia will be seeing Fiona? I bet she will enjoy some time alone with you.

I think I've sorted which combi microwave I want. My word why is everything s complicated nowadays......some even steam themselves clean, on others you can stop the turntable! I want one with a decent handle or OH will get his paw prints all over the door and no high maintenance stainless steel one. I never seem to use the special programmes they have either. It looks like being a silver one the same size as the one I have that goes up to 220 degrees for my roast potatoes. :-D My scarf has come to a standstill as I've run out of wool! The pattern says 1 ball, but it will need another third of a ball I think, so it is getting more expensive now but does look nice! I used to knit outfits for my sister's dolls when I was a teenager. I didn't have much money (mum took half my wages as board remember!) so I kitted out one of her dolls in a handknitted outfit as part of her Christmas present one year. As she got older she had a teenage doll, was it Cindy? I know it wasn't Barbie and I knitted things for that too. When I was aged 21 my future hubby and I made my brother and sister a toboggan each for Christmas. I painted them royal blue and dad, with having an engineering workshop, made metal runners for them and screwed them on. I must ask my sister what happened to them when I see her next.

Yes the little dogs were a real tonic to see, racing as fast as they could with ears flapping about and tongues lolling!! :-)

OH is having a lie down.....thinks he may have a cold coming! :-S

I hope Hannah's UTI improves soon. I've never had one, but have heard people say how poorly you can feel. It must be handy having a GP as your dad when you want to ask something medical though! :-)

Like you Maureen I was never keen on Elvis when I was young, but he grew on me later. I think he seemed more to do with the 50s and teddy boy era than the 60s when I was a teenager and into the Beatles etc. He was very good looking as a young man as you say.

Maureen I liked that film too Wonderful Life. It's when he sees back at what cold happen. Black and white film. Some of those ar ethe best. we watched Whisky Galore the other afternoon. I must have seen that about 20 times in my lifetime and still it makes me laugh.

My mum used to tell me not to grizzle and yes we used the name grockles for anyone who comes down here for their holidays. I am not a grockle because my family are from Devon.

Mel, my dad was from Honiton in Devon, so does that make a half Grockle LOL

Frank

Frank Report 31 Dec 2014 15:58

I thought I would try again.

Ros finished all the ironing It took over FOUR HOURS. The girls have now gone of to Exeter to M & S to change some things. Well that's their excuse.

The Fridge/Freezer has decided to play up, it's making a right old din. Conrad has emptied the Fridge and is now taking the inside to bits, to get to the motor. to try to find the trouble. He seems to know what the trouble is. The part is over £100.00 but he seems to think he can fit it himself. I know how things are for them, so I have offered to pay for it. Will know the outcome shortly. He has just got the inside out, and the ice is so thick, that the fan is catching on it. Thus all the noise. Hairdryer now going like mad, to defrost the motor. Lets hope that fix's it.

We aren't going out tonight, so will have a takeaway Chinese and Indian. Nice and easy. I doubt we will stay up for new Year either,

Have been watching all the displays around the world on Sky News. Very good they are too.

If I don't need to pay for a new part, I will pay for the food tonight.

Thanks for your offer Maureen, you be careful I might save up a load of ironing in Northampton, and get you up for a meal, and you can earn your meal by doing all the ironing. JANE might bring hers over too ;-) ;-) ;-) <3 <3 <3

Ice all cleared now, so he is putting bit back together. FINGERS CROSSED #!!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Dec 2014 16:21

I hope it fixes it Frank and you can have that nice meal tonight.

I jabbed something in my gum last night or yesterday and today it is sooooo sore. Might have to have a drop of jamesons to swill around it as that usually helps. Any excuse but the bottle I have oh bought me for Christmas last year so it has lasted me a long while and Iam not even half way yet.

I wonder what the girls will come home with from M&S frank?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Dec 2014 17:11

Ihave just shut the chickens in and now the deer is in the orchard eating the apples that were piled up under the big ash tree. I have only just thrown some up the orchard for it. Before I went out the bantams were kicking up a stink and it was the deer and then it walked away over the bank. They always tell us when something is about.

Your cake looks very nicely decorated Mel and how lovely to have the Long Tailed Tits visit your feeders! You must have been quick to get that photo, they don't hang about for long. We very occasionally see them here, just passing through.

I think OH has gone to sleep now! Still, if he has a cold coming it will do him good. He talked about going to a match tomorrow and taking me to Cheshire with him, but somehow I don't think that will happen. The match could be cancelled anyway and I won't be keen on being cooped up in the car with his bugs!! Maybe I will have a go at setting my laptop up instead. At least we got OH's satnav working, just need to try it out now!

We haven't stayed up for the NEW YEAR for a few years now, but as Maureen says you can't sleep when you know fireworks will be going off. I think we will be watching part 2 of the wolf prog tonight. I used to like Mapp and Lucia when it was on years ago, but just don't fancy it anymore.

How nice that Shirl's nieces from Scotland will be visiting for her 80th!! Does she still sound Scottish Frank or more American/Canadian?

The supermarket carpark was almost full this morning as was the garage when we called for fuel. I don't know if it is the sales or stocking up for NY parties but there doesn't seem to be any shortage of dosh!

Jane Report 31 Dec 2014 17:50

Hope that Fridge is sorted now Frank.I remember a few years ago Fitz having to get the hairdryer out for the same reason.ICE on the fan

Mel that must have been painful jabbing your gum like that.Go on have a good swill with a drop of the hard stuff :-D

I think I have got as much ready here as possible for now.I think there is going to be far too much food.I told Fitz that it was just nibbles.I hope they haven't had too much to eat already :-S.
What tosh on TV .I think we have had New Tricks on all afternoon as there was now't else we fancied.

I expect the celebrations are well under way now for the girls .I hope they have spayed themselves tonight well with anti mosquito stuff !!!!!!!

I think I better have a look at the Potato Wedges .They must need turning. My bit of foil that I stuck in behind the glass in the top oven is flapping about like mad :-S.I will be glad when the new glass arrives.

Annx

Annx Report 31 Dec 2014 17:56

Well folks, I just want to wish you all a Very Happy and Healthy 2015 - and thank you all for your friendship during 2014 and before.

No hospital visiting today for me. We went shopping this morning and are both cheese and crackered. I did phone and speak to Mandy and there was a possibility should would be let out today, but she isn't holding her breath. They will have to take her off the drip and take out the knee drain and from I saw they are not inundated with staff at the moment.

Frank, thank you for the Jackie ecard - they are always so beautiful. I got Mel's email and photos but I'm still waiting for a slice of her cake via the Internet :-) Wouldn't it be good if that could be achieved!

We often complain about the over use of mobile phones these days, especially by young folks. (We even had to put up with a certain amount on Christmas Day - when I left my phone at home!) But at a time when you're in hospital, they are a Godsend. You have a clock, a calendar, a notebook, a radio, some music - maybe even games - as well as text and phone messages. The only thing, and it was the first thing I thought of for my daughter - you DO need your phone charger.

Simple fare for us today - jacket spuds with some sort of filling to be decided yet! We can kick off 2015 with a nice meal tomorrow instead, Lord knows, we still have enough grub here to feed a small army. Why do we do it when there are only us two old codgers here? TTFN
