Morning my lovelies Evening Kim.
Never heard that expression before Mel. But I agree, it's rubbish weather. Drizzle with a sea breeze.
I am hoping to go to the lunchtime match. Conrad will walk me to the pub and go on with Ella to the pier to play on the machines.
We have been asked out this evening to one of Jo's friends. I think the girls will go and leave us at home alone.
We must think about coming home. We only have THREE DAYS tablets left !!! The passed two weeks have flown by.
Time for toast and coffee.
Have a restful and happy day.

Morning all
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE <3 <3.
Weather here has warmed up so all the snow has finally melted, it seems strange seeing all the grass green instead of white :-D :-D.
Had a lovely long chat for almost two hours last night with our youngest daughter. I get my calls free for the first hour at weekends and in the evenings so I rang her at 11.15pm then hung up about 11.45 and rang her straight back and brought the new year in with her, we stayed on the phone till 12.40am when the hour was almost up, didn't ring her back again as OH had to be up for work at 6.30 this morning.
There's a small chance she might move back this way to Chester as she's not liking it in Leeds as much as she thought she would. We live in a village with not many shops and she's a bit of a shopaholic so I suggested Chester as it's only about half an hour away from us and has lots of shops so she said she'd think about it. I hope she does come back this way so we can all see each other occasionally. I think she wished she come home for the New year but like she said she had to get her boiler fixed so couldn't be in two places at the same time lol.
Hope the fridge is fixed at your end Frank. If you're worried about running out of tablets and want to stay a little longer you can always go to a doctors there and get a prescription to tide you over till you return home, it would be a shame to leave early if you're still welcome and having a good time. ;-) ;-) ;-). Just a thought <3.
I loved your cake Mel and all those birds what a lovely site outside your window. These window feeders look great I'm thinking of getting one and putting it onto Michelle's old bedroom window then Sandra can see the birds feeding, she'd love that and after seeing yours and Jane's I think it's a good idea.
I tried looking for my camera again yesterday but could I find it........ Looks like I might have to buy a new one as I don't fancy unpacking everything we've put up in the loft and that's the only place left I can think of where it might be.
What a shame you've ran out of wool Ann for your scarf, mind you, didn't you say you were thinking of making a matching hat, so you would need more wool anyway, maybe you could order an extra ball so you have more than you need if you don't use it you can always send it back. Having a matching hat and scarf would be lovely and it would keep you warm in this cold weather.
Well, I'm off to do some washing. I was always told if you washed on new years day you washed your luck away. I've had a lot of bad luck lately so I'm hoping it will wash all the bad luck away. It didn't say which luck was washed out of your life so I thought I'd give it a go lol.
I do have quite a bit and hate it laying around, might change the bedding as well. OH is working now till next Monday so it'll keep me busy today and I'm sure I'll find lots of other things to do to keep me busy over the next few days. :-D :-D.
I hope no one has any hangovers ;-) ;-). BBL <3

No hangovers here Gill. My feeder is one of those pole ones and it's in the ground outside the kitchen window. Jane has the window feeder of which I have one but find my birds make such a mess of the window that I don't use it now.
It would be nice for you if your daughter moves back nearer you and you would be able to see more of her and I know Sandra would like that.
WEnt up our local shop a while ago as oh has run out of ciggies but they were closed!! I have some baccy for him so he will have to do with that.
Have you really been down here two weeks Frank? as you say the time has flown by.

That's a good idea having a feeder on a pole Mel, then it can be moved around the garden, how stable are they, do they just sit on the ground or do they have to be buried.
No hangover here either :-D :-D. I think I might just be a grown up now lol..... I got fed up of having a fuzzy head on the first day of the year so I'm more sensible now ;-) ;-).
Just put the bedding in the wash so that's another job out of the way, I'm going to have a hot bath as I've done something to my elbow and it's been painful for a few days now. It just started hurting out of the blue, so I'm not sure what I've done.
Yes it would be nice Mel if our daughter moved back this way but her best friend from school lives in Leeds and I think she likes living close to her, so not sure if her moving back will ever happen. I'll keep my fingers crossed............Not right now though, otherwise I wouldn't be able to type lol :-D :-D :-D.
Going to run my bath now, it takes a while to do my hair so I need to run baths early in the day. I'm hoping it eases my elbow too, as I'd like to start one of the puzzles I got for Christmas.
I can't believe this time last week I was in the kitchen cooking up a storm for Christmas dinner. I think Frank's right the time has just flown by ;-)

Afternoon All What a dark and dismal day to start the New Year. It's so windy too. No hang overs here Gill.Golly I do remember some terrible ones from my younger irresponsible days.I think it was mixing the drinks that did it rather than the amount.I stick to wine these days or a G&T I had a nice bath too this morning as I woke up all creaky. It is so nice just to lie back and relax.I hope your elbow eases.Maybe it needs a bit of a rest . Would it not be nicer for your daughter to do a house or flat share if she moves back nearer to you.Hannah shares with 3 other girls .It is a very large house so they do have plenty of space. They all get on so well together. They don't live in each others pockets and do their own things but still socialise together.I can imagine it being quite lonely on your own in a strange city. Fiona we really could do with a new suite .Ours is quite low and is not too easy to hoist yourself up :-S.Fitz rolls off it if he can't get up,and so does my Sister.A lot of 'oofing' goes on LOL.I bet you will be counting off the days now until your new suite comes.
I nipped out for some Yorkshire Puddings earlier (I know,I know,I should make them ,but i don't :-D),anyway while I was out I thought I would pop into Curr** to see what was happening with my new hoover...It has only been sitting out that back and no-one rang me to say it was in :-S....I do understand though that it has been so busy so I didn't complain. There were so many staff there today.I counted 10 ....and there were 4 customers !!!!!!!.A lot of the young staff looked like they had been out celebrating last night.Big Yawns going on all over the place :-D....Bless'em :-D I then had to take something back to next ..Hardly any customers in there too.I had a bit of a browse and bought James a Manbag and gloves. The front of the bag and the gloves are in a Harris tweed and look really 'cool'...In the sale too :-D :-D It is his Birthday on the 9th but he will be in Iceland then so his main present is cash in Icelandic Krona, but I wanted him to have something to open. It was very quiet out and about ,even Tes** was dead.
Frank it seems like you have been away forever.I bet you can't wait now to get back home and into your own bed. However nice it is to be away I always look forward to getting home again .
I don't think I will hear from Hannah for a day or 2 as she won't have wifi.
James has just got home .He and Jess got the train up to London last night to see the fireworks.
Cup of tea time I think now and then I better peel the potatoes for later.Roast Beef with all the trimmings tonight :-D

A very Happy New Year to everyone, hope this year brings happiness and good health and who knows maybe a few more babies for 2015, there will be one for Mandy at any rate.
As soon as you buy a new camera Gill the old one will turn up. I had heard of the superstition about washing clothes on new year but I've just done it anyway. I have a pole bird feeder and fixed it into one of those stands you buy to keep the garden umbrellas upright, do you know the thing I mean.
I bet our parents said the same thing Ann about gadgets getting more complicated, I used to laugh when my mum couldn't set the video recorder now I understand :-0 My mum took half my wages too, I earned £4 and 10 shillings as a GPO telephone operator, she took £2 and I had to pay train fares into London everyday out of my £2.10s didn't leave much but I think it taught me the value of money and paying your own way.
How clever you are Mel decorating that lovely cake, now William you really would be on to something if you could find a way of transporting it through the computer. We could even have a tot of Mel's whisky and a glass of Jane's champagne to wash it down.
My son has just rung they are coming over later, bringing a take away with them, reality is just setting in, I'm thinking, we won't be able to do this when he moves, we do chat on the phone but it's not the same as a daughter. Like you Gill my eldest daughter rings and we are on the phone for more than an hour, her husband doesn't know what we have to talk about for so long.

Well, I was a dirty old stop-up last night, didn't go to bed till 1.30am. Had a 'wee dram' to see the New Year in and watched some TV.
The hospital saga continues, apparently visiting times have been axed due to norovirus on one of the wards and it's 3-4pm and 7 - 8pm. Text Mandy to say I wouldn't visit today just in case I brought the bug back to Carmel. Her Mum (my first wife) and her brother and his wife will be going so it would be a bit crowded anyway. Let's see what tomorrow brings, I've told her she'll have to take out a mortgage soon to be able to stay there!
If she goes out she'll go back to her Mum's in Nuneaton for the time being as there is only her at home and her village is a bit remote. Her son, (my grandson Oliver) is away at Uni in Kingston upon Thames although he gets back as much as he can. Having a job down there as well limits his time as well. She has a good friend in the village but that person has a family so there is only so much that can be expected. Hopefully, she will soon get mobile again. If she goes back to her Mum's I'll go and visit her there as we all get on fine, non of this bitterness that can sometimes exist in second marriages, thank goodness.
I've only been as far as our Sa*nsbury Local to get milk and raid the 'hole in the wall' today. It's not very nice out there, damp and windy - me, I prefer a good frost any day. Great to lay the 'bugs'.

Afternoon All,
Well, let us hope we all have a HAPPY 2015. :-) Fiona, how good is that to find just what you wanted! We have been looking for ages for 2 seater leather settees but there's always something not quite right. I don't know if you are the same but I find manufacturers don't cater for shorter people so either my feet are dangling above the floor or there is a huge gap behind me to the backrest or both. The settees we have still look good but have these problems. I have the same problems with dining chairs too and we are looking for some of those. The ones we have are nice brown leather ones, but are quite uncomfortable now they have been used a bit. Where your legs go over the edge at the fronts the bar under your thighs feels quite hard! Still, I have ordered a new microwave today so that is some progress. :-) lol.
That is very true Maureen about learning the value of money and managing it well and being proud of standing on your own feet. I had £5 a week at first and paid mum £2-10s. Then I had to pay dad a gallon of petrol for what I used taking his van to his workshop each day once I could drive (4s 2d a week). What you couldn't afford you waited and saved up for.
I never heard of New Year's Day superstitions till I met my first MIL. She never washed on New Year's Day and said you would wash a life away if you did!! :-0 I used to still wash but just didn't tell her. :-)
Oh I've been summoned......BBL

William ,best stay clear of the hospital if there is Norovirus. You really don't need that . At least you can keep in touch with your daughter by phone. Well I think you are the eldest on the thread and you were the only one to stay up and see the New Year in...Puts me to shame that's for sure :-S
Ann us people with short legs have a raw deal don't we.My legs are often dangling ,or else I have to sit close on the edge of a seat (if I am out ) just so I don't make a spectacle of myself when trying to stand up.It just isn't fair :-(
William I think Mrs.Browns Boys are on tonight :-D :-D :-D..I just hope it isn't a repeat . I know it is just the 2 of us who love Mrs Brown.

Hi Ann Yes I have the same problems with sofas and chairs always too high & my feet dangle, our living room suite at the moment is 35 years old, it was chocolate brown when we got married, then when we came up to scotland , I changed my colour scheme, but could not have a new sofa , so we had the old brown one recovered in blue along with the chairs, about 5 years ago we had to throw out one of the chairs it was a twirly one similar style to a computer chair, but bigger of course, so that left us short of chairs for all the family, so we had to get Katherines futon out of her bedroom and we used that, but it is really uncomfortable to relax on.she is happy that she will get it back now and she can throw out my dad's settee, as it's very old fashioned, and smells slightly, Also we had the problem of getting high back chairs, all these modern sofa's are short with lots of cushions no where to rest your head, especially with Daniele being 6'4 & Jake is 6'2 and oh is about 5'9 so we really wanted high backs, they are recliners too, will be great to throw out the old puffy :-)

Happy New Year everyone <3
I lost a post last night and another one this morning, so will make this short before it has a chance to vanish.
I stayed up to see the new year in - opened the front and back doors, and then went to bed.
The old year was actually a good one for us. I acquired a new grandson in law, also my beautiful 2 month old great grandson, who smiles at us all now.
I am cooking the traditional New Year's meal today - collard greens with ham, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread. I also made a peach pie from some peaches I had frozen back in the summer.

Downton starts here this weekend - we're all waiting excitedly :-D
I've started watching Marco Polo on Netflix. It sometimes takes me a while to understand what's going on.
Son is here so must get moving.

Jane, I think the Mrs Brown tonight is a new one, the second part of one shown before Christmas. I watched the one after the Queen rock concert last night, that's why I was up so late. I know Mrs Brown isn't everyones taste, but being 'connected' to Ireland, I suppose I can identify with the humour. Although we went to see the film and were both disappointed with it.
Otherwise we are back again to not haven't a lot of decent TV to watch. I think it will be an early night for us tonight, maybe another little nightcap for yours truly.
Talking of Ireland (Dublin), I had my B in L on earlier and their boiler packed up just before Christmas and they have been freezing even with two electric heaters. He said the suppliers of spares aren't open until next Monday so any repairs will have to wait until it's known a/ if the spares are available - or b/ if they will have to be put on order. I think he said if they have to have another boiler (this one is 20 years old) it will be 1600 Euros and he doesn't know if that includes fitting.
I'm just hoping that I will get a message from my daughter tomorrow to say she is being allowed to be discharged. They say they need the beds but from my own experiences, being in during a holiday is like getting stuck in Groundhog Day!!!

My you have been busy chatting, like a lot of old washer women. :-D :-D :-D
I got to the match lunchtime, on my own as Conrad was doing some work on his computer.
Have just taken my evening tablets. I have enough until SUNDAY. Then we will have to come home.
I can't get a prescription down here Gill, I don't have a repeat with me and I know Ros hasn't. But as Jane said it will be nice to get into my own bed. The other problem we both have is, the sofa's are so low, we have a job getting up once we are down !!!!
Jan did a sheep S### pie tonight with a variety of veg. It made a change from Gammon, Pork or Turkey.
The girls didn't go out tonight as the weather is filthy out tonight. Rain and wind.. They didn't go to Exeter either yesterday. but are going tomorrow. So another quiet day for Conrad and I.
I'm glad that you all enjoyed the New year. If nothing else it's been very mild. !!
I went to get some cash out today. The guy in the pub said there was a cash machine in SPAR just down the road, They wanted £2.50 for a cash withdrawal. NO WAY. I don't pay anybody to get my own money from my account. So Ros will have to get some tomorrow.
Hope you enjoyed the emails this evening. I love the rescue one <3 <3 <3
Off for a beer, before bed. See you in the morning. Goodnight God Bless.

I was awake till well into the early hours this morning but in bed! The fireworks were going off around here for three quarters of an hour.
Tomorrow morning I'm meeting up with some friends at one of their houses. She has 2 black rescue cats she got last year after their old cat died. One is still too nervous to sit on anyone's knee. I must see if I can pop and get a small gift to take for her..........she always bakes something nice for us....lovely welsh cakes last time and we had them hot straight from the oven........much nicer than ones we had in Wales last year. I need to get out the veg we are having later before I set off too as OH has said he will do all the peeling and slicing while I'm out. :-) We usually eat out on Fridays but they stop doing carveries where we usually go for a few weeks after Christmas. The other things they do are nice, but I need to get back to my plates of veg to lose these extra pounds I've put on the past few weeks, especially after eating my friend's cakes!!
I've recorded a prog about Alaskan sled dogs to watch later. We enjoyed the Roald Dahl Esio Trot prog with Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman tonight.
Gill I love Chester for all it's old buildings and there are plenty of shops as you say so your daughter would like that. It must be difficult to know where to live when your friends are scattered about though.
I hope you hear from your daughter tomorrow William and that she gets discharged. You are wise to keep away yourself today with Norovirus at the hospital.
Your New Year's Day meal sounds interesting and different Ruby. A nice change after all the Turkey!
It's wet and windy here and supposed to be cooler again tomorrow. I think I shall toddle off to bed now as I'm finding it hard to get up when it's dark in the mornings and the bed is warm and cosy. :-)
