Morning All, Evening Kim

Need to do the weekly shopping this morning, OH does not go back to work till Sunday, so we are going to pick up just a few things, there's not a lot needed really,
But if we do it today, OH can go Cycling on Sat if the weathers good,
I have to buy popcorn and juice cartons this morning, as I am taking Sofia to see the pantomime Cinderella this afternoon at 2, Victoria said Sofia is so excited , this will be her first pantomime, I feel quite honored (?) that she wanted to go with me instead of her Mamma to see the pantomime, Cinderella(Princess Aurora) is her favourite Disney Princess :-D :-D

Dry & cold this morning and really windy outside, better go and get ready to go out.

The seagulls have attacked the dustbin, garbage all over the place.

What are you all up to today ???

Gillx Report 2 Jan 2015 11:44

Morning all

Sun's out here today but very windy.

Hope your daughter is discharged today William. I bet she's fed up now and can't wait to leave the hospital.

That's a good idea Maureen to put the bird feeding pole inside a stand for an umbrella. OH made a bird table a few years ago and Sandra helped him, she loved to see all the birds but after a while the wood rotted so we had to get rid of it, he was thinking of making another one with her but might make the feeding pole instead, I know Sandra would love to help him again,. You're probably right about the camera, it will turn up once I've bought a new one, it's always the case isn't it?

That was lucky Fiona finally finding the right sofa and chairs, 5 years is a long time. I bet you're excited and can't wait for February to get here now. I have the same problem, my feet dangle over the edge of our sofa, much to OH's amusement. :-D :-D.

Our daughter isn't keen on having a house/flat share Jane she likes to have a whole flat to herself. Chatted with her again yesterday and I think she's decided to stay put for the time being, she starts a new job in a few days so she wants to see how that goes before making any decisions, plus she likes being close to her friend.

OH said he'd still like to move to Devon so it looks like we'll be in Devon and daughter will be in Leeds, even further apart. Sandra got a bit upset, she'd built her hopes up and had got it in her head that her sister was going to come back closer to us pretty soon, which isn't going to be the case after all. At least we know now and even though Sandra's not happy about it, I think she's excepted it.

£2.50 for cash withdrawal of your own money Frank, that's a bit steep, I don't blame you for not bothering. I hope the weather is ok for you on Sunday, have a safe journey home. I remember the seagulls from when I lived near the sea, it's not funny when they get into the bins, the mess it makes is terrible and with the wind picking up today, it'll be everywhere. Hope it's all sorted out now.

I used to live in Chester Ann when I was little and still remember the park I used to go to. We left Chester when I was five, but I go back every now and then for the shops, or for a nice boat trip along the River Dee. It has so much to offer. I don't think our daughter will be moving there now though after our conversation yesterday. Got the impression she'd miss her friend to much, they went to school together and now they live 7 streets apart, so I don't blame her for wanting to stay. I know how much she's missed her over the years.

Happy New Year Elizabeth, it's nice to hear from you again, hope 2015 is good to you <3.

Hope everything goes alright for you Mel at the dentist today.

How lovely, Sofia wanting to go with you to the pantomime Fiona, Cinderella.... I must admit that was always my favourite fairy tale, hope you both have a great time.

My elbow is still a bit sore, so I'm going to have a relaxing day today and rest it, been taking anti inflammatory tablets which seems to be helping.

Off to get something to eat now

Morning/Evening all

I only have a minute as I want to get to the P O before it shuts for lunch.
It is a lovely bright and breezy day and the washing should dry nicely on the line :-D.
James hates putting his Polo Shirts in the Tumble Dryer and drys them on the Clothes Horse in the main Bathroom. But I hate to have them hanging about so any decent weather and they go out on the line :-D

I have just had a coffee and been watching the Moorhen pottering about under the Window Feeder.I have tried to take a couple of pics but there is a lot of reflection off the glass.it's a funny bird and is the only one left from a group of babies last year(it might have even been the year before !)

Gill what part of Devon are you thinking of moving to? Plymouth is my 'home' I lived there from the age of 6months until I got married in 1981.it was in a village just outside Plymouth called Wembury.Right by the sea :-D

Must dash now but will BBL

Frank Report 2 Jan 2015 12:50

The way things are going, WE WILL BETHE NEXT DEVONTONIANS. Ros is beginning to get the feel for the area, and being close to Conrad and Jan tempts her. I liking the sea would be a great advantage too. I could take up Fishing from the pier or harbour or even beach casting. (if I didn't fall over) lol ;-) ;-) It's all a pipe dream, will know more as time goes on. !!! There is nothing other than Lewis to keep us in the Midlands, and as he grows up he will want to spend less time with us anyway. IF we did make a move, it would be close to the sea. with TWO BEDROOMS, so we could have visitors. WATCH THIS SPACE :-D :-D :-D :-D

When I spent time at Ellesmere Port Gill, I would go" look about " in Chester. What a lovely old town it is. !!!

Looking through a bag this morning I found £50.00. from a Christmas present towards my Kindle from Conrad. So I won't need to find a cash point now.

As much as it is a bright sunny morning here, I have been sitting at the kitchen table, with the door and window open, and there's quite a chill in the breeze.

Ros is looking for a pattern so she can knit Kerry a shawl for the new baby boy, together with other things, this she did for Julia when Lewis was born, Lara for her daughter, Jo for Ella and now this one. She loves knitting so will be please3d to do it.

They haven't gone to Exeter yet. Jan is fuffing about getting ready. She takes ages. Many a time we have all been sitting bin the car WAITING for her. Conrad has told Ella he will take her to the pier, so she doesn't want to go to Exeter. She's afraid she might miss out. !!!

These stairs are getting to both Ros and I, I don't count how many there are, but they seem to go on for ever, It's a Bugg## if you leave something up stairs and have to go back. Our little bungalow will seem so small after being here.

I've been told it's CHICHEN CHIPS and SALAD tonight for dinner. So I will be happy with that.

I have just put on my last pair of pants and got out my last clean handkerchief. I have put on a long sleeved casual shirt this morning, that will leave me with a clean shirt to go home in. Ros is buying more pants today, I have dozens at home, I should have pack more !!!

I hope we can get everything in the car to come home. It seems she keeps buying more bits, so I might have to sit on the roof :-D :-D :-D <3 <3

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Jan 2015 12:51

Back now and sorted till next week I hope. Had two more impressions taken and then one where she put some kind of stuff in my mouth and I had to bite on it . This was white stuff and only went on my bottom teeth so they could get the bite right of the top new set and the bottom set which only has three teeth on. I had to keep my bottom set in for the impression too.

Gill Plymouth is manic here now. It in absolutely full of traffic lights every few yards.
I am in north devon so near to both devon places and cornwall.

I left the chickens shut in while we were out as the fox has been around. At least they are all safe now and I have their mash on from our roast dinner yesterday so they have a nice warm feed in a min.

We went to Li*l after my appointment a bought more food!!!!! Trying a bottle of their cider for oh. He picked up a lots of bits that I don't usually buy, as men do, Ann will know what I mean. Now I have no room once again in the fridge.

Gill it would be easy to make a pole feeder with a cross on the top for hooks to hang things on and a bar a bit lower down to hang other bits on. The ones that most of us have are only about £15 and in the cheaper shops we bought one for £12 something. I have three of these as when mum was alive she used to do a lot of jigsaws at a card table in the lounge under the long window and we fixed herup one out there through the middle of an old wooden garden table. She had a plastic hook stuck on the window for a peanut feeder to hang on and a seed tray but her favorite visitor was a little mouse that came and ate the birds food and sat on the windowsill to eat. The window goes right down to the floor.

Hope Fiona enjoys her pantomime this afternoon with Sophia especially as it's Sophia's first one. She will want to go every year now.

When we go to Hartland Quay in the summer the gulls there are a blimmin nuisance when you are eating outside and the minuet someone leaves their table the gulls are dwon to see if there are any bits around they fancy. The people who own the pub though are very quick at clearing the tables and the food there is lovely.

Afternoon all,

Another bright and breezy day here ,lovely sunshine ,it's so bright we had to pull the blinds down this morning .
It was so windy last night and we heard such a lump but when hubby went out side to see what it was he couldn't see any thing ,the mystery was solved when we went up to bed ,it was the toilet roll holder that had dropped down onto the laminate flooring in the bathroom :-D it's one of those that holds on with a big suction bit, we put it back and it's holds for a few weeks then off it comes again.

Sounds as if you will need a trailer behind the car for all the extras Frank :-D
I bet you have been eyeing up bungalows for sale now on your walks out :-D why not go for it ,you know you love the sea air and you'd be closer to family too.

Ham ,egg and chips for us tonight ,nice and easy ,we had family here last night and we had Shepherds pie ( DIL's favourite ) with plenty of veg .

Still have a little gammon left ,how long can that be kept for ? i do hate waste .

I wish my son was moving to near the sea, I wouldn't have to think twice about selling up, I'd be there in a shot. They were over for chinese takeaway yesterday and they are doing a roast dinner today so will be going there later, I shall really miss them when they move, but it should give me a chance to get back to some healthy eating.

I like Mrs. Brown's Boys too Jane but didn't see it. I was trying to work out what programmes to watch and what to record with the help from my son who pointed out I can record two programmes at the same time on this youview, I recorded Quartet and a film on Channel 4, and wanted to watch Eastenders then my friend phoned in the middle of it and it was only later I realised I could have paused it so I missed most of that, still as Frank would say, it's all a load of rubbish anyway. Started watching Quartet and realised I'd seen it already so not a very successful nights viewing.

Hi Ruby, glad to see you had a good Christmas, and hello to Liz too hope the new year brings health and happiness to you both.

What a cheek Frank wanting to charge you to take money out, they seem to find new reasons all the time to charge whatever they can.

Gulls can be a bloomin' nuisance Mel, my cousin was sitting on the beach enjoying a sandwich and a gull swooped down and pinched it right out of his hand.

I haven't had any birds on the feeder for ages so I've thrown out all the old seed etc. and moved it, my daughter said she moved hers which was near a tree and bushes to more in the open and has lots of birds there now, maybe they are nervous a cat could be hiding in the bushes. I'll keep watching now to see if they come back.

Have you heard from Hannah recently Jane, hope she is feeling better, if she's on antibiotics she won't be able to have a drink either.

I'm going to have a look at front doors on the internet now, I desperately need a new one and thought I should get it before son moves or it might never happen.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Jan 2015 16:16

Maureen you can still watch Eastenders on your youview box. Go to On Demand click the up arrow for players and click ok then up two times and left arrow twice till you get BBC iplayer then the down arrow and then the right arrow till you see Eastenders get to that and then click on the play on the handset. You can go forwards to where you were by pressing the arrow with the stop which is at the bottom as that only takes you a little way along just press it till you get to where you were when you had your phone call.

Afternoon all

I've just finished watching "The Queen's Garden" a two part program that was on over Christmas. What a wonderful program. Not only did it cover the garden of Buckingham Palace over a full year, but also covered all the wildlife there and the history, dating back to the 1500's. Did anyone else watch it. I might see if it's out on DVD as I'd love a copy of it. It was presented by Alan Titchmarsh.

It sounds like we're all moving closer to you Mel. My sister used to live in Plymouth about 20 years ago and it was busy then. We were hoping to move to somewhere a bit quieter but don't know any other pars of Devon well enough to choose. Does anyone have any ideas. We'd appreciate any help offered. Is Wembury quieter than Plymouth Jane.

We'd be the same as Frank just two bedrooms, now there's only us and Sandra, but might consider three bedrooms as well, so we have a spare room for visitors. The one thing I'd love is a kitchen/dinner. I used to have a large kitchen back in the day, when I made and sold cakes and I miss the space.

I know what you mean Mel about the seagull's eating all the food. I remember going to Llandudno Pier when we lived in Colwyn Bay. We decided to have some chips...........BIG MISTAKE.... I had to cover my food up while I was eating so the seagulls couldn't get to it, they didn't even wait for people to leave they tried to grab the food as you were lifting your fork up to your mouth and if you weren't quick enough you lost your food to them.

You do make me laugh Frank, I had visions of you clinging on for dear life, on the roof of your car, hoping you wouldn't get blown off on your journey home :-D :-D :-D.

When I lived in Ellesmere Port Frank, Sandra and I would go in to town and on the spare of the moment jump on a bus and be in Chester in less than half an hour. She used to love it when we went any where that wasn't planned. Pity the bus fares are so expensive now, we can't just go anywhere we like anymore. Where about in the Port did you live, were you close to the town centre.

There's nothing worse than hearing a bump in the night Mandy and not knowing what it is, especially if it's really windy. I bet you were relieved to know it was just your toilet roll holder. Quite funny once you know what it is though ;-) ;-).

Going to take a look on Righ*move now to see what properties are on the market in Devon, still not sure what part of Devon I'm looking for yet but I'll take a look anyway. :-)

William Report 2 Jan 2015 16:35

Hello folks, I'm not long back from hospital visiting my daughter Mandy. She is a bit down in the dumps as you will learn but keeping cheerful in spite of not a very good outlook for quite a while yet. The registrar came while I was there and although things are ticking along the right way, there is still a long way to go. I've copied what she put on her Facebook below so you have her own words.
George Eliot hospital in Nuneaton. My new knee joint is septic. I have had two operations so far to wash it out and will need at least one more. I will be transferred to the Nuffield in oxford as soon as they have a bed, for up to six weeks of IV antibiotics. They will also take out my new knee and clean inside and give me a new replacement. I'm going to be off work for some time and a long recovery.
She is not allowed out of bed at all as she mustn't put any weight on her leg. Her job at Oxford Brookes University is safe for at least two years and although she has nearly used up her half pay - at least you she knows she will still have a job. We've told her not to worry about finances, what are parents for. The only thing I worry about is that I won't be able to visit her when she is transferred to Oxford, although it is a specialist ward and the doctors there know her case, I still wish she was nearer.
We thought when she had that last knee operation things would be all uphill for her, just goes to show, we never know whats around the corner.

Well, having cheered you all up for 2015, I'll now clear off and see if I can do something more constructive - like make Carmel a cup of tea !!! TTFN

We have been out all afternoon, Conrad Ella and me that is. The girls aren't back from Exeter yet. They said they WOULDN'T BE LONG. That's a joke and a half !!!

Gill, where we are in the Torquay area is very pretty and there are some lovely beeches and walks. I don't know your budget. but properties are from £130,000 upwards. (I have been looking in estate agents windows). ;-) ;-) ;-) If (I think) you go inland a bit the properties get dearer. So I will all depend what you want and where you want it.

By the looks of things, I will have to get a train home, and buy her a roof rack. GAWD knows what she's been buying today ;-) ;-) ;-) YOU WOMEN ARE DANGEROUS WHEN YOU GET NEAR THE SALES (BLESS YOU ALL)

ooh ouch ,do I have a back and neck ache..I have been trying to do this dratted puzzle.I have had a magnifying glass out too as is is so difficult working out things on each bit.Now I can't see as the lights aren't bright enough .So I have left it now for today.

Gill, Wembury is a village about 8 miles from Plymouth. It has grown a fair bit since I lived there but it is a lovely place to live and has a good village community life. There is a pub, post office, spar, beauty salon ,(I think Hairdressers too). The village Hall of course. Then not forgetting the Beach where I spent most of my childhood.it is a mixture of sand and rocks and has a Marine life Centre based at the beach.A nice little cafe virtually on the beach in what was the Old Mill.
There is a reasonable bus service running to and from Plymouth ,stopping at Plymstock where there are a range of shops. If it is village life you are looking for I wouldn't think you could go far wrong with Wembury. The cliff paths are lovely to walk .One way towards Plymouth and the other to the River Yealm at Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo.
I shall be making myself feel homesick in a minute lol....I think you could google Wembury ,Wembury Beach and you might get some idea. By the way there are lots of bungalows !!

Oh William your poor Daughter. She has just what David and Mandy's Son in Law had .
I know David had IV antibiotics for 6 weeks .It is going to be a hard and difficult time for her but hopefully when all is done it will be all good again.

I hope Fiona and Sofia have had a wonderful time at the Panto this afternoon.Lots of shouting 'He's behind you' lol and booing when the baddy comes on stage ..Oh I want to go to a Panto now :-D

I just looked at the time and see it is 5.30 .I didn't think it was as late. The fire needs another log and the dinner needs to get going.

Gill I will would be happy anytime to tell you about any areas around Plymouth if that is where you think you might like to go.Just let me know and you can have my phone number.

I have been a very good girl :-D :-D.So far. ;-)

Going back to talking of Devon.North Devon and South are very different.I have to say I do prefer the South (sorry Mel :-D)But both are lovely.

Sorry Maureen I didn't see your post or Mandys

No I haven't heard anything from Hannah for a couple of days.i think she won't have wifi. She has had today(I think today ) in a very strange place.Hugging Mothers Ashram. It is a bit like a retreat .One night in a dormitory ,no air con ,and lots of hippy type will be enough I think lol
Hugging Mumma should actually be there so the girls might have got theirs hugs.
Look Hugging Mothers Ashram up !!!!!
Hannah finished her antibiotics just when she went Maureen. That fact we have had no panic calls now for a few days means (I hope) that things are better.I think she is just drinking gallons of water lol

That toilet roll holder must have been quite heavy to make that noise Mandy !! I don't like unexpected noises in the night

Cold beef chips and peas for us tonight.

Thats ok Jane but we don't get the grockles so much where I live. Mandy you could be classed as half Devonian if your dad was from Devon.

We have a cash machine in our local shop and the shop owner has to feed the money in it. We have to pay £1.50 to use the machine but it does come in handy sometimes when you think it is 9 miles to Holsworthy where the nearest cash machine is and the fuel would cost that to go there.

Evening All,

Gill we watched the Queen's Garden and really enjoyed it too. Alan Marshtit (as OH calls him) is good on programmes like that. I read his biography a few years ago and there was a photo of him as a young man......very dishy!! I've also seen him at the garden Live show at Birmingham with Carol Klein who is good too.

Your poor daughter William.......it sounds like it will be a long recovery for her. It's a shame she will have to be so far away from you for part of it.

I bet Sofia had a good time at the panto, especially it being Cinderella......my favourite too.

I called at the nursery in the village and got a pretty plant covered in white flowers to take for my friend this morning. One of her cats was wearing a plastic lampshade when I arrived! Apparently the door was accidentally shut on her tail and the end had to be amputated!! It was the nervous cat that won't sit on knees as well, but surprisingly she has been friendlier since it happened allowing herself to be picked up and coming to see us all to have her head tickled. She kept licking the plastic as if she was trying to wash herself and kept lifting a front paw as if she wanted to wash that too!! We all had a good chinwag helped by some delicious home made cakes covered in flaked almonds and home made shortbread. My friend showed me the things she made at the fused glass class I couldn't manage to enrol in with her. Some lovely clear glass drink mats that had a row of dandelion clocks with green stems and leaves and little pendant necklaces the same. I ought to have a taken a pic of them, they were so delicate looking. Also some sparkly stars and tree ornaments for the Christmas tree.

When I got home I did some lunch, nice tender lamb with an onion gravy, crunchy roast potatoes and roast parsnip, 4 veg and the remaining stuffing balls out of the freezer from Christmas. Very nice it was too. Back to no potatoes for me most of the time now or I'll be bursting out of my jeans. Then we went to the nearby retail park and I think we may have found some suitable sofas in the sales with no dangly legs for me, but not so low they are hard to get up from!! I need to do some measuring up next to see if we could get them in through he front door.

Then I was doing the same as Jane, getting a stiff neck and bad back doing more of my jigsaw! lol. I have had to rig up my desklamp at the side to be able to see better, but I think the magnifying glass idea might be called upon as well. Every bit of brown wall looks the same, as do the trees on mine and pieces appear to fit but are still wrong!! I've only done about half of it up to now.

Just looked it up Jane........it's very strict for the devotees isn't it.......chanting at 4.50am. Not keen on that Amma doll shown, but I never did like dolls much. It's certainly an unusual place and must be quite an experience to go there.

Dinner done and just about dusted.Chris is doing the clearing up :-D.I am waiting now to see Eastenders..It has been driving me mad not knowing who killed Lucy !!!!!!
Hopefully we might just find out tonight. The mystery has gone on for far too long now.

William i do know what your poor daughter is going through as my BIL had an infection set in with his knee joint,in fact both his knee joints went the same way !! This all happened after he'd had the joint in for a few months , he had to have the knee joint taken out and a filler that contained antibiotics put in ,in place of the knee joint ,which he could walk on with the aid of a stick ,after about eight weeks he then had another new knee joint put in and touch wood every thing is working well and he's now back doing some jobs .
All in all it's been a year since this all happened , so it's a long long wait to get back on your feet .

Jane the toilet roll holder is quite a heavy one and does make quite a noise when it drops on the floor , i some times think don't you drop on my toes in the night !! :-S

Has any one started to undecorate ,i think i'll do some of ours tomorrow , i bet it will be dusty under the garland on the mantle piece !! i haven't done any dusting since the decs went up :-0 :-D it looks so bare when they come down.

We have a soapdish in the bathroom that has one of those big suction cups and occasionally that will come off and crash into the bath scareing the living daylights out of me. Like you I look at it and hope it doesn't drop on my toes.

I didn't get round to taking the decs down today so will start tomorrow too. I noticed my neighbour had taken their tree down today. I haven't dusted since they went up either, just a quick hoover round that's all. Yes, it will look bare and drab won't it. :-(

Did anyone get a pic with Shirl's 'snow' email?

Jane have you been watching On The Case series? I've only watched 2 up to now but thought they were very good. They are true crime stories. (America)

I think I'm turning in now, I feel quite tired tonight........
