Afternoon all
Oh Frank you are funny, you seem to have a similar sense of humour as my OH. What with you joking about dressing up and the dog wetting itself on you. Between you and OH I've been laughing so much I had tears in my eyes.
Poor William, hope his luck changes soon and things start improving for him and his family. He was lucky someone put a note on his car. It's nice to know there are some decent people in the world.
Well, I can't see the grass getting cut now, after all the rain snow and hail we've had today, if OH tried to cut it, I think the grass would probably look worse.
Don't need to worry about it for another week anyway as the silly Estate Agent got the dates wrong. The woman is coming up next week so I've had to re-book the viewing for next Friday, the only problem is I don't know what OH is working till he gets in from work later, so I hope he is off next Friday afternoon. If not I'm sure his boss will sort something out to help, she's quite a nice lady and OH has done an awful lot of overtime to get her out of a fix more than once, so hopefully she can return the favour.
I got a bit of dusting done so it wasn't all bad and I've spent hours trying to find somewhere else to buy. There's hardly anything on the market at the moment around here. People just don't want to move.
I did notice a couple of new one's that have come on the market in the last few days, so you never know there maybe some more soon. Hopefully with one we like and can afford.
Going to make a lasagne now and some garlic bread. I wasn't going to make it today, thinking we were having a viewing and not wanting the place to stink of garlic but now I can make it without having to worry about any nasty smells lol. BBL <3

Evening all,
It's been a really rough day here with high winds ,rain and hail , i just can not get warm today i feel chilled to the bone ,tomorrow we might have some snow and heavier showers over night into friday .
I had to laugh at your OH's reply Gill LOL
Poor William it's one thing after another for him ,some one does the damage and then you have all the sorting out with the insurance company and not having a car while it's being repaired ,it was good that some one got the other cars number and left the note on the screen ,and William needs his car for the hospital trips for Carmel .
I think what i can remember Skate is quite a sweet tasting fish ,what i mean is it's not a fishy fish ,not strong like some fish ,it has quite a big bone and forks quite easily off the bone ,DIL has Skate when we go to the coast for F&C.
We have been looking at paint colours for our bedroom ,i asked hubby if he will do it next week if it's going to be a bad week and he carn't work out side , i don't think it's been decorated for about eight years !! I bought new curtains today they are a Duck Egg colour with tiny flowers on in a light beige colour,so now we just have to pick a colour for the walls .

Yes, it does look as if we will get some snow doesn't it. How was the electric shower today Mandy and do you have to wait for the part for your boiler or did you manage to get it fixed? I think I might try some Skate then if it has just a big bone. It's picking out tiny ones I can't do with. I like Plaice, Sole and Sea Bass as well as Haddock and Cod and might like it if it isn't a strong flavour. I won't know unless I try it! lol.
That sounds a pretty material Mandy and duck egg always looks nice and fresh. I think Mel has it too if I remember right? I replaced those BIG tulips I had with a nice duck egg colour with birds and twigs on them. The cream in the twigs matched the walls so I've left them for now as another bedroom needs doing first. It's a good idea to get it done while your hubby is at home.
Hopefully you might get another viewing before the one next week Gill. Keep that duster handy, just in case. Yes you don't want strong smells like garlic putting anyone off.

Ann thats what I thought when I read Mandy's post. They do sound like my curtains and you're right they have got small beige flowers on them.
You should like skate Ann. My dad always had skate if he could. I think it has like a jelly bone and the flesh is in lines if you know what I mean. You just scrap it very easily off the bone.
Brings me back to an old memory of when we had the caravan on St Osyths beach when I was young. Dad had a clinker built sailing boat and had a trawl which we used quite often. The boat never seemed to move much when the trawl was out but we worked our way along the beach towards Brightlingsea and then back again. When the trawl came in we used to have lovely small sole and some plaice which dad would gut and clean and mum would grill with a little butter on and we had them for breakfast. Such white flesh all plump and delishous with bread and butter.
We had hail today too just as I was corning the chickens and bantams and the minuet I got inside it stopped. More a bit later but still very windy too. It hit my face and really stung.
Gill just as well you found out it was next week the viewing and you were'nt waiting for the lady to arrive this week. I expect the grass is much too wet for oh to mow it. My oh has a mower parked in the back field which he can't get in the lean to as the ground is too wet and it will make such a mess so th epoor old thing is missing out on it's new home for the winter.

Hi all, Heard from Jane. they had rain all the way there, but now or earlier was sitting in front of a log fire in the bar. So the are settled for a few days.
Ann you will enjoy skate wings, The bone is very soft and you scrape the flesh off both sides, I did enjoy mine tonight. I used to fish out of Brancaster (Mandy will know it) The skate there was beautiful, thorn back rays, and tope were the main catch. Twelve hour tides, so once you were out you had to stay the full Twelve hours.
What a bummer the estate agent getting the dates wrong. You get yourself all worked up and get let down like a flat balloon.!!
The heating engineer should be here tomorrow to sort out the Thermeastat (sp) should get a phone call to say what time he is coming..
Lets hope we all get away with the bas weather tomorrow, Stay warm.

Morning/Evening All,
Well I think I must try some of this Skate now after what you all say. I think I will like it.
That was very interesting about your dad and the sailing boat Mel. I would have loved a trip like that as a child.....it would be very exciting!
OH has gone to a training brief at Loughborough this morning, so I am catching up on a few jobs/HW while he's out. :-) I wiIl get twice as much done as I would with him here. He doesn't understand multitasking and how you can be watching something cooking in the kitchen as well as be cleaning in another room!! He thinks if you are in one room, you won't be in another and still manages to get in the way!! lol. I need to book my car in for a service and an appt for a blood test at the docs. They seem to be keeping a more regular check on my thyroid for now.
I'd best get cracking........no sign of snow here yet, it's bright and sunny! I heard on the telly that there was an earthquake in Rutland yesterday morning that shook buildings! We didn't feel it here though.

Morning all
Still windy here and it looks like we've had some rain in the night.
Glad to hear Jane got to Suffolk alright, let's hope the weather isn't to bad and they have a good time.
That was quick Frank for an insurance company, normally they keep you waiting. You'll be back to normal then tomorrow ;-) <3.
Yes it is a bit of a nuisance not having the viewing until next week, but at least it gives us a bit more time to sore this place out. OH wants to sort out the garage so he can get his pushbike in there and a few other bits while he's off work today, so now he'll have all the time he needs.
How true that is Ann, OH is always under my feet while I'm trying to do the housework. I'm glad he has a job of his own outside this morning so I can get on with things.
I'd better get on with my jobs before OH finishes his, or he'll be under my feet again :-D :-D. BBL <3

Morninng all and evening Kim,
Fingers are a bit stiff this morning. Keep typing wrong and we can't have that or Franky Boy will be pulling me up again.
Sunnyish here too this morning but I hav'nt seen much of it as I only got up at 5 to 10 after a visit at 5.30am when oh got up.
Ann men don't even think about multi tasking ( except our FRANK). My one just has to get in the way or dos'nt like the sound of the hoover when he is in unless I warn him first. Then just as you are getting into the swing of things they decide they want a coffee and you make it better than they do so you stop again. I always got more done when mum was in bed too. If she asked me to do something I would do it at my own pace and not the min she wanted it done.
In that memory about the boat I think I gave the impression we sailed with the trawl out. Not so, we had a Seagull outboard motor on the back of the boat when the trawl went out. It was'nt a large boat only about 15 foot long.

Morning all, evening Kim.
Mel the time you got up, if you turn it round that's when I got up (4.50 am) 10 to 5. I woke up and couldn't settle. It's that time of the year, with all the memories of my dad dying,. I know after 57 years I should be over these thoughts. But they are there and there's nothing I can do. It will be 4.00 am tomorrow when he left us. :-( :-( :-(
I have prepared a roast in the bag chicken for tonight (Garlic and Herbs) also two trays of roasted veg, with the stuff sprinkled over them with olive oil.
Ann There are3 various ways you can cook Skate. I like mine cooked in batter (which I can't eat now) so I sprinkle with flower a shallow fry, There are bound to be loads of ways on line or in cook books.
Frost last night, and very cold wind this morning.
I had a phone call from the engineer at 8.00 am to say he will be here between 2 and 5 this afternoon. Good job when he arrives. HOT WATER, but NO CENTRAL HEATING this morning.
In the evenings I do tend to concentrate on the kitchen when everything is cooking, but other than that I can potter around a do two things at once.
Ros is 100% better this morning. She has finished all her tablets, and the cough is almost gone. One of the girls that works at the surgery has DOUBLE PHEUMONIA. Where she caught that heaven knows.!!!!
I had a nice grilled sausage sarnie this morning with brown sauce. It dribbled all down my dressing gown (MUCKY PUP)!!!

I would have just been thrilled to go out on a boat Mel! :-) I can only remember one boat ride on a canal as a little tot and a once on those little paddle boat things for one person at a park in the city. In my teens at at age 15 I learned to canoe and did one of those PGL holidays canoeing down the river Rhone in France. First OH was going to build a cabin cruiser after we built 2 canoes, but he lent the plans to a work friend of his who managed eventually to lose them when he moved house!!
Having a breather and cup of green tea now. Why do men manage to mark the paintwork around plug sockets and light switches? There are two plug sockets that only he uses, yet I know he will say it could be me. :-S Either way, he doesn't clean them off, so it's still left to me. :-S A lick of that 'wet' paint for burglars around them that doesn't dry would do the trick!! lol ;-) Pity they don't do it in white. Mel I usually make OH drinks when he's working outside.... well it saves mess being brought in and saves more work......need I say more!! :-S ;-)
Better get showered now, he'll soon be back and wanting to take me for a bite to eat with another 20% off voucher. At least that saves me work cooking. <3 <3
Oh just spotted your post Frank. I like fish done in flour like that, mum used to do it so I might try it done that way. Good news about Ros. I bet she feels so much better now. I've had pneumonia twice and OH had it the year before he retired. The doctor said it is in the air around us and we can get it when our immune sytem is a bit low which it is I suppose if we aren't well with something else. It's very unpleasant though. I was too weak to even sit up when I had it as a little girl.

The receptionist probably caught it at the surgery Frank. As people come in with so many complaints it is not surprising really. Thats a job I would'nt like. I even hate going in for our prescripts at this time of the year.
Glad Ros is well on the mend now. It takes a lot to keep her down with all the things she does for others. How's the other complaint today??
Going to Holsworthy to get some corn as these 10 lady pheasents are eating us out of house and home.
Ann I had my own 12' rowing boat when we had the caravan. It was a flat bottomed one my uncle Phil made and when he moved down here to Devon he gave it to me as he could'nt get it down here at the time. It was pinched from the caravan one winter but I bet they did'nt get far in it as the boards on the bottom leaked and needed re corking. Thats another story though.

Hope Jane has taken her thermals with her, it really is cold and very dark here at the moment the rain has just set in.
I have such a terrible memory I don't remember much about my childhood but one thing I do remember, my uncle used to work the barges and I spent the day out with him, they had a horse that walked along the towpath, don't suppose they use horses anymore, come to think of it, they probably don't use barges anymore either.
Do you have an under active thyroid Ann. I had a blood test months ago and the dr. said I was borderline under active, the next test showed an increase and then the last one I had he said it was normal, I didn't understand that at all, plus when I read up on it I had none of the obvious symptems.
Your meals always sound so tempting Frank much more exciting than my 'something' and salad but then you put a lot of effort into them and I just can't be bothered. The antibiotics have done the trick then, so glad to hear Ros is back to her normal self.
We must be in the decorating mood, Jane has just done her bedroom I'm in the middle of mine and Mandy is starting on hers. Must be something to do with January, wanting to brighten everything up. Talking of which I'd better get back to it, at least get another undercoat done before it gets too dark.

Maureen ,hubby's only going to decorate our bedroom because he carn't get on at work without son helping ,son had planned to have the time off work when the baby came so as hubby doesn't like sitting doing nothing i suggested him doing some decorating ;-) :-D worked out quite well really :-D

Well, The neighbour was out in the garden with a basket of washing to go on the line. She had the first thing in her hand, when the heavens opened, and down came the sleet then snow. I have never seen her move so fast to get in doors. ;-)
Yes there was an earth quake in Rutland 10.30 pm last night. I don't think it was far from where Conrad lived. Did the earth move for you ANN ??? :-D :-D :-D
Have you got the snow Gill, Sandra will be pleased if you have.
Maureen, I sometimes see a "WORKING BARGE" go up/down the canal. But no horses. !!! Blisworth Tunnel use to have the "LEGGERS" to get the barges through the tunnel. They would lay on boards, and walk the barges on the tunnel wall. Very interesting if you look it up.
Maureen did you have a copy of my childhood memories?? if not I could send you one down the jolly old line :-D :-D :-D
The engineer has been and gone. He fitted two new thermostats one to the boiler and one in the lounge. He even went round and checked all the radiators, and bleed those that needed doing. I slipped him a fiver for a pint.
Ros has been to pick up the scrips for her problem, BIG bottle of WASH, a massive jar of cream. and other bits. The knickers aren't there yet. They will phone when they arrive ;-) ;-) ;-)
Jane will certainly need her thermals if this weather persists. As I have said before "WINTER DRAWS ON" <3 <3 <3
Cuppa time, stay warm and safe. xxx

Yes I was diagnosed 20 years ago Maureen and was 'borderline' at first. I think it is quite common, my sister is 'borderline' now. I didn't get all the symptoms eg you are supposed to feel the cold, whereas I've always felt the heat!! lol. My hair started to go grey in my 20s though and that is a sign as was the brain fog!! Oh I would have really loved going on the barges with the horses towing them. I would have had my pockets stuffed with titbits for the horses. :-D
How great to have your own boat Mel. Did it have a name? I hope you don't get blizzards while you are at Holsworthy..........it's snowing like mad here now. It started while we were out, then stopped, now it's snowing again. OH is on his way to a school meeting and is just hoping that everyone turns up. It doesn't take much for some to fail to turn out and they can't run a meeting if there aren't a certain number. He'll not be a happy bunny if he has to turn round and come home as he has to leave very early for this one because of all the traffic..
Frank, the earth moves for me every night............ as I stagger to the loo half asleep!! lol. It's good your heating is sorted now. Fingers crossed you don't have any more problems with it. It's been a bit of a nuisance lately with one thing or another and just when you need it in the winter. It sounds like Ros will have a bit of a performance applying creams etc, but a small price to pay to be more comfortable.
Yes, the wind is really biting today and it makes my ears ache too and I hate hats as well. I even hate trying them on in shops. I snatch them off as soon as I see myself in a mirror!! I did think about getting a knitted trapper type one like OH'S though to cover my ears........maybe I should knit one.......I'll have to see if I can find a pattern I like!! I bet the children will be loving the snow Mandy even though there hasn't been much yet. Have you ideas on a colour for your bedroom?
I hope Jane wasn't going to the hide today......she'd need a hot flask of something if she was!

Back from Holsworthy and had two hot cross buns and a cuppa when I got back as I had'nt had anything since my small bowl of cornflakes this morning.
While I was at the cash machine the hail came down blown by the wind. I only opened the zipper on my bag to get my purse out and I must have had a half a handfull of hail stones go in it. Then I leant over the machine as it was blowing a gale and the stones were stinging my face. after that I went over to the pet shop for more wild bird food being very carefull treadin g on the hailstones that were about half an inch deep on the road and pavements. Not worn these shoes in ice before buy they seemed ok. In the pet shop I bought a load of seed and while he was weighing it out I looked out the front of the shop and there were big flakes of snow falling. Headed straight for home after that as I had sone my other shopping. Half way home there was hardly any hail or snow and as I drove into our driveway there was nothing in the garden.
Had three boxes of eggs out on my table this week and they were there yesterday but all gone today but only one box had been paid for..............
I don't look good in hats either really but I always wear one when it is cold or when I have to go round to the chickens.
