Jane Report 24 Jan 2015 18:02

Right the oven is on and the first part of dinner in.I have done stuffed courgettes (never tried that before) .Then it is Haddock fillets with some cherry tomatoes on the vine and new potatoes

Chris has been doing a bonfire for 5 hours today !!!.Burning all the branches etc that he cut down the other day.He smelled like a kipper when he came in .So stripped off in the garage and went straight up for a shower. He now smells as sweet as a Rose %3A-D

We have had to refill the Rat Station box again today as all the poison cubes had gone.I haven't seen the 2 big ones today but did see a much smaller one.Maybe it was looking for Mum and Dad %3A-%28

While the thread was down I have managed to get all the ironing done ,more washing ,a bit of cleaning and shopping .So quite a productive day %3A-D
What has everyone else been up to today?

Hi Jane

Nice to see someone else here, I just PM Mel and was about to do the same to everyone else letting everyone know how I finally managed to get here. It's been annoying trying to get on here and just getting the error page all day. Let's hope it's fixed now and everyone else can chat too.

Enjoy your meal

Wow Jane you've been busy. I've had a bit of a relaxing day, had a bath and watched some TV then made dinner.

I had to laugh when you said Chris smelt like a kipper. At least he smells better now. Your dinner sounds lovely, I just had some mince and mash and Sandra fancied fish and chips so quite simple meals tonight.

Let's hope you get rid of those Rats, you don't want them to get into the house.

I saw the neighbours cat climb up our apple tree before to get the pigeons. It's quite a silly cat, the birds just sit in the branches above it and watch, then if the cat gets to close they just fly to another branch and carry on looking, it's so funny to watch. In the end the birds flew away and the cat gave up and climbed back down the tree. %3A-D

Evening all,

I've been trying all day but kept getting the error page so gave up in the end , i think it was all the long running threads that were affected ,lets hope it's all sorted now .
It gave some one a bit of over time putting it right %3A-D

It's been a lovely sunny day ,we had a little frost first thing and the roads were a bit dicey when we nipped to Te*co's .

Hubby has been out in the garden most of the day he's made a little covered area beside the shed to keep the logs in , i think he's going to have a load of wood delivered in the next week or two.

Right will see if post goes through now !!

Jane Report 24 Jan 2015 18:38

Gill I always worry that cats will get stuck up the tree.Fitz's cat Podge used to do that when he was younger.I think he did stuck a few times and Fitz had to get the big ladder out and climb up to rescue him.Birds are pretty savvy aren't they %3A-D %3A-D
Nice that you have had a nice relaxing day.You always sound so busy so it must be nice just to chill a bit having a good soak in the bath and then TV %3A-D

Seems like both our men have had a day outside Mandy. We need to order more logs soon.I think dinner will be ready soon so better get some plates and cutlery out.

I burnt my hands on bleach yesterday so I've not been able to do much today Jane, it has been nice to have a day off but I think I would get bored if I had to do nothing everyday, I'm the type of person who has to be on the go all the time, my mum is always telling me to take a day off.

I had intended to paint Michelle's old bedroom. With it not being used, some condensation appeared in the corner and caused a bit of mould, so I cleaned that yesterday and was going to paint that area today, but with my hands being so sore OH did it for me.

It wasn't a large area so it only took him a few minutes. Luckily he was off work today. He did have the rest of the day to relax and his boss didn't call him to go in to work. What a shock that was for him, as normally she's on the phone pretty much every time he's home %3A-%28 %3A-%28

Oh Gill your poor hands ,didn't you have any rubber gloves ? son carn't stand the smell of bleach ,he nearly gags so i have to make sure i don't use it if he's coming round .

We had Chinese tonight ,and i got a chicken out of the freezer for tomorrow .

Gillx

Gillx Report 24 Jan 2015 19:14

I've got a chicken out of the freezer for tomorrow too Mandy, it's Sandra's favourite.

No I didn't put gloves on, I had a large bedspread with a stain on, so I put it in soak in bleach in the bath, I have an old wooden spoon I use to move things around when I bleach anything. (Not one I use for baking lol)

Things were going great until I emptied the bath. I wanted to refill it to rinse the bedspread, but I didn't think and picked the bedspread up so the water/bleach could go from underneath it, down the plug hole.

Well, now my hands are red raw. Guess I won't be doing that again and next time the rubber gloves WILL be out. Definitely a lesson learnt %3B-%29

HI YOU LOT. Glad it wasn't just me. I have been trying since 9.30 this morning. Thought I would try one more time, and up the thread popped.

Mel, I wasn't picking you up !! honest. %26lt%3B3 %26lt%3B3 %26lt%3B3 I just thought that sometimes you get a letter round the wrong way. That usually happens with Touch Typing.

I have had a quite day. My top lip is breaking out in cold sores, which are very painful. I have been spreading Zofora# on them all day. But the trouble is each time you lick your lips more of the stuff comes off.

What a shock result last night. and even MORE TODAY. Three tops teams beaten and out of the cup. Lets hope West Ham fairs better tomorrow. I will be glued to the Tele.

Ros went to meet Martine this morning. She still has a cough as does Ros. Martine's OH is not very well again. He is now using a ZIMMER round the house and has borrowed a motorised scooter, to takes the dogs for a walk. I don't think it will be long before he will need oxygen full time. to get him around.

Will catch up with the posts tomorrow, if I can get on here.

I shall take a look Jane, didn't think to Google it. Thanks.

Well you know the answer to that Frank, DON'T LICK YOUR LIPS LOL. Joking aside hope your cold sores clear up soon.

Going to Google remedies for bleach burns now, my hands are really sore

Gillx

Gillx Report 24 Jan 2015 20:21

Just Googled bleach burns and found out that potato peel is good for chemical burns. Wish I'd know when the potatoes were peeled earlier, they're in the bin now so don't fancy using them, but will have some more tomorrow so will try it then.

My bath earlier helped, my hands aren't as sore as they were yesterday, it's mainly my fingertips and the first knuckles on my left hand by my fingernails on the first two fingers. They are quite red and any heat near them really hurts, so drinking hot drinks isn't easy.

Looking at some of the burns on the net, I've been quite lucky, probably because my hands weren't in the bleach for very long and I rinsed them almost straight away. Like I said earlier a lesson well and truly learnt.

Thanks again Jane for your advice %26lt%3B3

I sent you a personal message earlier Mel, explaining how I managed to get onto the thread, but thinking about it now I think the thread might have been fixed at the same time and that's how I managed to get back on here. So just a coincidence I think %3B-%29 %3B-%29.

Evening All,

Yes, I had trouble trying to get on here earlier too. %3A-S I was just hoping the posts wouldn't all be gone like before.

I had a chuckle at Chris smelling as sweet as a Rose Jane.......so he should. lol %3B-%29 It reminded me of my first marriage when my surname was Thorne. My then BIL was jokingly saying it wasn't a bed of roses being married into the family. No, I said, for us it's a bed of thorns! %3A-%29

Well, we got a message last night to say the ex demo car wouldn't be back till Sunday now, so we went to the other place in Coventry instead that I bought a car through my bank from 11 years ago. They are now available via the Civil Service Motoring Club as well where we get our breakdown recovery. The depot is brand new and huge!!! OH was drooling over the rows of sparkling Jag*ars!! Their system makes it easy to choose just what you want so he's now able to have the expensive red colour he likes, the climate control and a full size spare tyre and it will be a March new registration. OH was a bit wary of buying over the phone, but now he's talked face to face he isn't any more. He is so chuffed as he has saved £5473 on the full price, whereas he thought getting nearly £2000 off with the local dealer was good the other day. They deliver the car to your door free of charge and collect your old one at the same time if you are part exchanging. They give you the usual 12 months tax, some fuel and a set of floor mats. Thank goodness that is all sorted now!! %3A-%29 Meanwhile my front tyre has lost 15lb pressure again and the other front one has lost 5lb, so I've had to blow them up again and it looks like I better pop to the tyre place Monday morning. %3A-S

Yes, I hate all the preparation with decorating too Maureen, but as you say, it's worth it to get a good finish. I have used the satin sheen rather than gloss on woodwork for many years now. It wipes down just as easily and doesn't show slight flaws like gloss does. It's perhaps as well as after doing coachpainting and getting a perfect gloss finish with that I would never have been happy with what I did in the house after!! lol. A big plus is that it doesn't need much sanding next time you do it.

Gill, years ago my mum and dad used to run a very small home for a few mostly elderly ladies with various forms of mental incapacity or learning disability. One worked and the others were hospital day patients. She had to have help after dad died and had a part time cleaner and cook. She couldn't pay much in wages and kept the hours they worked low because she couldn't have coped with the extra work and cost of dealing with a payroll, paying employer's NIC etc if they had earned above the thresholds. A lot of small employers do the same. What she did was let them take any surplus food home that would be wasted or have a meal there at times and would buy them a gift when they put themselves out for her. Not the same as money, but it all helped.

Mel, you spelt 'telephonist' wrong!! %3A-D lol. Sorry, couldn't resist after what you put! lol. All of us make mistakes on here at times, especially spelling, but no-one says or minds. I remember how difficult it was for Frank to type anything at all at first after his stroke, but I think we all appreciated the effort he made and really enjoyed what he wrote. It don't really matter that much for chit chat does it.. %3A-D

No of course it dos'nt Ann and we all know what we mean. O have a little wiggly red line under the word dos'nt. It must have a spell check on here now!!!!!! %3A-S

I have done two lots of washing today and got it fried and ironed except the kitchen hand towels which were in the second wash and were not quite dry. We've had a very cold breeze today but sunshine most of the time.

I tried every way I could to get on the thread this morning and at other times during the day. When I looked on General chat I could get into all the boards and answer threads and I even tried to send Gill a message and still got the error page. I thought it was just me!!! I even rang Jane on her mobile and left a voice mail in case you could all get on and not me!

I wonder if this spell check thing will come out on the posting??? I just missed out the space between in and case and it came up then.

I was going to clean the girls out this morning and got all the shavings ready and then decided it was too cold to be out there so came in and had a coffee.

When I looked at the thread on General Chat it said we had 38,000 and something replies on it. I don't think we have made that many posts, do you?

Gillx

Gillx Report 24 Jan 2015 21:41

Oh how wonderful Ann and what a saving much better than the £2,000. Now I know who to turn to if I need a new car lol.

That was really nice of your mum and dad to buy presents and let the staff have the odd meal. I think OH is just grateful for having a job and doesn't want to chance losing it if he refuses overtime all the time. He does say no occasionally but not very often. At least the extra money comes in handy so it's not all bad I suppose. He's going to take a few days off in April for Sandra's 30th, not sure what we're doing to celebrate her birthday yet, will have to see if OH can get the time off first.

Glad you're back with us Mel. If you right click on the word underlined in red, that is the spell check, you can then click on the right spelling in the drop down menu. Hope this helps %3B-%29 %3B-%29
