Gill if you break the leaves off the stem so they have their sort of base plare and put them on sand which you keep damp you can put some gravel on the top to keep them upright and they should root ok. Or you can try a leaf in water. They take really easy. YOu are talking about the pink flat headed sedums arn't you?

Gillx

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 09:57

Morning all

Wet and dull here today.

Yes, Mel I've got the flat headed Sedums. When I did a leaf cutting I put it in compost, so maybe that's where I went wrong if they should of been in water. I'll have another go the way you said and hopefully it'll work this time. I've grown cutting of other plants by putting them in water and that seemed to work, so I'll try that way with the Sedum and see what happens. Thanks for your advice.

Did you get any further with your family tree? I hope you did and things are running smoothly for you now, there's nothing worse than hitting brick walls is there?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Oct 2018 09:58

Morning all,

Dull and cloudy here and its been raining I think as the ground is wet. I hav'nt been out there yet but it is a bit chilly in here so I expect it will be outside.

Shopping today, so I shan't be around much. These shopping days are coming around very quickly.

Gillx

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 10:59

It's chilly here to Mel, I've just put the heating on and it went off on it's own, so I had to put it on again. We had problems with it about a month ago when it wouldn't go off. OH spoke to a heating engineer friend of his and he told him to change the batteries, I did this and now the heating goes off, so he'll have to have a word with him again as he said he'd come and take a look if changing the batteries didn't work. We think it might be the transmitter or receiver. I think that's what they're called. Hopefully it'll be fixed before the winter gets here and we need the heating on more.

Just watching the results of Strictly I forgot it was on twice over the weekend and that I'd recorded the results last night for Sandra and I and when I went online this morning there was a news story about one of the dancers who happened to be the one who went out, so now I know the results. Sandra doesn't so she'll enjoy watching the programme. I'm going to take another look at my family tree while it's on then I'll watch a few programmes I've recorded for myself.

OH has just put another bolt on our side gate, it warped at the bottom in the heat wave so hopefully the new bolt at the bottom with straighten it up now the damp weather is here. He can only try can't he? He's also cleared all the weeds from in between the flags so that's looking better now. Luckily the rain stopped just long enough for him to do the jobs. I've had to turn one of my pots around as the flowers were going underneath the plant next to it, I must of trodden on some mud as it ended up on my living room carpet, so when that's dry I'll hoover it up.

Frank Report 2 Oct 2018 11:32

Morning all,

Haven't read any posts, SORRY

Nothing to report, other than Ros making a good recovery, while I am feeling absolute rubbish. Pain all down my right side, and I had chest pains last night. I expect it's all the stress and worry over the last couple of weeks.

I had hells own job of getting to the nurse, and back this morning for my injection.

Green and Blue bins emptied today, both filthey dirty inside, so I have had he job of washing those out, and sweeping all the sawdust and pine needles from the gutter.

Ros has gone for a spin in Carolyns new JAG. and going with her two town, on the promise that she doesn't go walkabout. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

I have has coffee and toast, bow going for a lie down.

Will try to get back later.

Gillx

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 11:53

Oh Frank, it sounds like you might of over done things lately, a lie down is a good idea, hope you feel better soon. Is there a way the nurse might be able to come to you while Ros can't take you, it might be worth phoning the surgery to ask them.

Sandra is so excited, she's just ask me to check the movie channels and the CHRISTMAS MOVIES have started, needless to say she's got me recording one already......bless her.

Jane

Jane Report 2 Oct 2018 12:53

Morning All

Frank I am sorry you are feeling so bad. Surely the bins could have waited to be washed out at another time. You must ease up a bit and not try and do everything.
An easy laid back is is order for you now. Now do as you are told :-D and I hope that after a good rest you will be feeling a bit better and relaxed. Ros will be fine out and about now and she will be sensible I am sure .

So Xmas Films at last for Sandra :-D :-D. I wonder if there will be any new ones for her this year.

I have just cancelled my Physio appointment for tomorrow . I have put it back until next week when hopefully this cough wil be much better.

The sun is trying ot come out now after a really dark morning so I am going to get my washing out now.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Oct 2018 12:56

I bet there will be lots of repeats from last year and the year before Gill. There always is.

Just having my toast then I shall be off.

Frank sorry to hear you are still in pain and I hope the rest will do you good while Ros is out with Carolyn in the new Jag.

Annx

Annx Report 2 Oct 2018 13:51

Morning All.........first blunder........it's already the AFTERNOON!

Just popping in to say hello and how are you.

I've now joined the 'hobblers' since the doc made my knees worse by pulling them around. I have to see her tomorrow for the results of some x-rays. Poor old OH has had separate cataract operations in both eyes over the past few months. The first was great, but a week after the second he developed retinal tears and we have been back and forth to the hospital for him to have repeated laser treatment to stick them down. One day we were there over 8 hours and the consultant was convinced his retina would completely detach and had booked a theatre slot for him in readiness!

His old footie pal's son passed away aged 30 while his dad was on holiday in Greece. The hospital said not to fly home early as they had everything under control. At 2.00am they rang to say he had passed away.

In a fortnight I am doing a workshop to make a beaded star. I hope it will be easier than it looks. It will be at the lady's house that had the bead sales and home made cakes. She stopped doing the sales 2 years ago, but did one last week, so maybe she is starting doing them again?

Better go now as I must order some ink for the printer and then mend the doorbell. I lurched out of the front door yesterday hanging onto the door frame as I stepped down and the doorbell on the frame came away in my hand and fell to the ground. OH's useful comment was 'what did you do that for?' ?? :-S :-| :-S They do ask some silly questions. Luckily it is one of those remote bells and the pushbutton bit was just stuck to the door frame, so a bit of double sided tape will do the trick. I bet he won't even notice I've done it for a while though.

Frank

Frank Report 2 Oct 2018 13:56

Here I am !!!

I had my rest, and had a bowl of Oxtail soup and some bread. Feeling a lot better now I have eaten.

I've run out of books, and haven't been round to Tony to get anymore. So I am charging my KINDLE, and will read some of the many books I have on there.

Turned rather chilly now, so the heating is on, as well as a jumper.

It will be nice for Sandra to have her films back, even though she might have seen some of them before. I do hope she enjoys them xxx

I have just bought a 12 volt tyre pump as he one we HAD started to smoke last time I used it. I think she has a slow puncture in a rear tyre, so a trip to the tyre people tomorrow, if she feels like driving.

I am still waiting for the NHS Physio to contact me. I will have to chase up the doctors, as it goes through them.

I hope your cough soon improves Jane, i seems to have been with you forever. xxx

I'm not sure if I should start a new shopping list for on line, or let Ros drive me to Tesco, and I do the shop in store. I will see what she says.

Pork ribs, chips and Baked Beans tonight. Nice and easy and not a lot of washing up.

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 15:10

Hi Ann lovely to see you back, sorry to hear about your knees and your OH's eye, is he alright now? and how are you? What a shock that must of been for the poor parents to hear their only child had passed away and such a young age to.

Your neighbour sounds as daft as Mr Grumpy next door to me. Fancy her having a go at the neighbour because of a shed, it's up to him whether he puts it up or not and taking trees down just to be nosey just isn't on. Maybe if she thinks the close is "dead" she might sell up and move. 7.10am was a bit early for a delivery, lets hope they don't do it again, or at least not that early in the morning.

It sounds like you're going to have fun (not) making the cushioned beaded star if the beads are very small, a magnifier is a good idea. Love to see a pic of it when it's finished. I've seen silversmithing on TV it looks really interesting I bet the rings and bangle look lovely.

Did you get your doorbell sorted? Has your OH noticed yet? You are right men do ask the silliest of questions sometimes ;-)

Sandra had me recording the first of the Christmas films today so we'll be watching that later. I think you might be right Mel, I've noticed to that they repeat most of the films, although they do have the odd one we haven't seen before, so I'm hoping the one I've recorded today is one of them.

Pleased to see you are feeling better now Frank, it looks like the rest and some food did the trick. Have you rang the doctors yet about your physio, hope it doesn't take to much longer for you.

Going to watch a programme with Sandra now she's got it on pause, then it'll be the Christmas film.

Annx

Annx Report 2 Oct 2018 17:09

Thank you Gill. :-) They have not only lost their only child, but also the chance of any grandchild too haven't they. It will have left a great hole in their lives I'm sure and not be easy to come to terms with if at all.

The new neighbour even suggested to another neighbour that the one next to us could cut his trees and bushes on his front lawn down as well. His front is a bit messy and crowded now the trees have matured but that's his choice and right to have what he likes isn't it! (goodness knows what she has said about us.......I doubt we've been missed out!! lol. I bet she doesn't like us leaving our fir tree with it's needles). That was quite a nasty bang on your head from the old cottage but it sounds as if you are ok again now. I'm sure hubby would have been bumping his head everywhere in an old place like that. I like sedums too but but I lost a nice red one over the winter. I bought a lime green mossy plant today to split between my new front wall pots. I have some little tete a tete daffs and some tiny Iris a friend bought called Gordon!! to put in them and thought the mossy stuff will tumble over the edge by next spring and look nice.

I bet Sandra would enjoy seeing some of the films again even if she's seen them before! I always think of her when the christmas films come round now. It's an exciting time of the year for her!

Good idea to cancel your physio this week Jane. That huffing and puffing would set off the barking hound of the Baskervilles big time! Your poor ribs would be hurting. Do you go to the hospital for the physio? I just had a limp up the hall to see hubby off to his meeting and told him I might have to take up swearing!! :-D That made him smile.

Jane

Jane Report 2 Oct 2018 18:28

Hi Ann :-D :-D :-D

Oh good luck tomorrow when you go to see what your X-rays show. I know how bad your knees are and how much you are struggling with them now. Fingers crossed its not replacements for you.
OH has been through it with his eyes hasn't he !!!. I hope all the laser treatment has worked and things will all settle down very soon. That must have been such a worry for you both with a theatre being booked just as fast as that.8 hours was an awful long time for you to be hanging around at the hospital .I bet it was hot and no comfy seats for you while you had to wait.
The lady across the way sounds a right horrible bit of work . She will always be Mrs Overall for you now LOL . Hope you dont greet her by that name ;-). I reckon everyone gives her a wide birth .As Gill said she sounds like her Mr Grumpy next door.

How is OH's friend ? What a dreadful thing to happen to his son just after he had skyped and given his Dad the thumbs up :-( When an emoblism like that strikes it can be instant lights out. He probably would not have known anything which is good but the shock for his Father and family is unimaginable .

Ding Dong :-D Is the bell taped back up? Chris would have said exactly the same ot me as G said to you. In fact he often says it . As if you do something like that on purpose :-S
That is nice to go back to that lady with the beads and cakes :-D. Watch the cakes now ;-) Is the star a Christmas one for the tree? It would look very pretty.

Frank a bit of a rest and some grub in you sounds like it has helped. Oxtail Soup was my Mums favourite. A smoking tyre pump didnt sound good !!. Hope this new one will be good. I should think Ros is fine to drive now . Has she done any driving yet?

Mel have you done your big shop now? Where is you get OH's Cider from? I was watching James Martin on Saturday and they were testing Ciders. One was from either Aldi or Lidl and I couldnt remember if it was one of those or is it Morrisons you get it.

I am going to ask the GP on Thursday if he thinks I need antibiotics now for this blasted cough. Its dragging on now and boy is it getting me down. I know these type of coughs can go on for weeks but it is a chesty one and not just an irritating tickly one.
Its doing my head in (and everbody elses).

Amazon will be delivering a handbag I ordered sometime today . Anytime up until 9.
It is just a Navy Patent large clutch/shoulder bag. I can't be doing with tiny ones where you can just about get a tissue and a lipstick in !!!. Hopefully it will go with my Navy Patent shoes. It may well be going back ,but I shall see.

My Sister is still in a pickle with her knee :-S She is getting loads of nerve pain now and is going to start on Amitriptyline . She did say just now that she managed to get in the bath on her own which is a first. But Larry was there to help her out.She says she feels a right old crock and totally useless. :-(

I have made a Beef Ragu thingy for dinner. It has grated courgette and carrot in plus garlic ,lemon juice, zest ,Basil and Parmesan. I just need to do the Pasta now. I hope it will be tasty as my taste is somewhat off at the moment.

Evening all,

Well look who's back :-D <3 lovely to see you back on the thread again Ann i do so miss reading your posts and hearing about OH's antics :-D
Sorry to read about OH's trouble with his eyes though it must have quite a worry for you both,i hope the laser treatment helps , now your hobbling about what is it with these doctors that they have to prod or poke and pull you about and give you more pain it's like they don't believe you have the pain, hope the news is good on the xray results tomorrow.
How awful for the couple to lose their son at such a young age ,just awful for them to see him giving the thumbs up and then hear news like that
Your neighbour sounds a right nosey parker LOL i had to smile at her taking the trees down only for the neighbour to block her view with his shed :-D
I'd love to see the beaded star when you've done it ,is it one to go on the christmas tree ?

Lets hope the doctor can give you some antibiotics Jane all the coughing must be making your chest so so sore ,are James and Chris still coughing ?
Your poor sister with her nerve pain in her knee she does go through it when she has these op's .
My BIL is still waiting to hear when he can have his knee done again ,they have to make a special part to go in his so i suppose it will take a while .

Glad your feeling a little better after eating some thing and resting a bit Frank ,you'll just have to do the odd things and leave the rest no point in making yourself ill .

We went shopping this morning and sat out in the garden this afternoon it was really warm in the lovely sun shine even though the wind was quite blowy .
We had Amazon deliver yesterday and it was late in the evening when he came but it's good you can track the order and see how many more stops before yours so you know roughly how long before he gets to you ,i ordered Max a new bit of Vet Bedding and you should have seen him wagging his tail when i put it in his bed .also Colin wanted a new pair of those thick gloves he uses for the wood burner .

Back all unpacked and put away and had a drink to revive me.

Its lovely to see Ann posting again but I am a bit puzzled about this neighbour and the trees and shed as I hav'nt read anything about it in the only post I can see from Ann. Have I missed a post??

I do hope your exray results are good Ann and that its not knee replacements for you.
Is this new neighbour next to you or across the close? Hope G gets on ok with his eye now he has had it seen to again. That was an awful long wait in the hospital, 8 hours, did you take something to do with you while you waited?

What a shock with that lad only being 30 years old. As you say no chance of any grandchildren now either as well as losing their only son. What a terrible thing to happen while they were away.

Jane poor Janice having all this pain and annoyance with the other knee op. She went through the mill with the other one if I remember rightly. Give her my love please when you next speak to her.

Its getting dark here so I must go and shut the girls in but will be back later.

Gillx

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 19:04

I don't think any parent would ever get over the death of a child. My MIL was in bits when she lost her youngest son six months ago, he was only 49 and died of Cancer. OH took it badly to.

What a cheek of your new neighbour, she's not going to have any friends at this rate is she?

Your plants sound lovely, that was nice of your friend to buy you some Iris's named Gordon, they'll look lovely with the daffs and grasses.

I've got a lime green leaved plant that has just flowered, a daisy shaped purple flower. I've just spent the last hour trying to find out what it's called but can't find an image of it online anywhere, it's driving me mad trying to find it so I've given up for now. It's a lovely plant, I bought it a few months ago but it didn't have a label and I haven't seen one again in any garden centres to ask someone.

Sandra and I have just finished watching the Christmas film, she loved it and made a note of other films coming on as they were being shown in the ads. She written them all down so I can put them on the planner.

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 19:41

Sorry to hear you're still unwell Jane, I can see how it must be getting you down by now. Hope the doctor can help with some antibiotics. Your poor sister to, hope things improve for her soon.

You've been lucky Mandy being able to sit outside in the sun. It's done nothing but rain here on and off all day. So Max was excited with his new bedding, bless him.

I've noticed the nights are drawing in to Mel. Is it this month the clocks go forward?

Annx

Annx Report 2 Oct 2018 20:46

Thanks for the welcome everyone and once I finish the star I will send a pic....might take me a while to do with the tiny beads though.

Max was obviously happy about his new bedding Mandy. How old is he now? I expect he has steadied down a bit since he was that gorgeous little bundle of black velvet. I still have your lovely photos of him. :-) Have you seen anything of Nicko lately? I hope he has a home now. It seems that knees are causing a lot of us problems and the doc didn't help mine when she sat on my foot and pulled it back and forth. I thought there's me doing exercises to strengthen the muscles around it and she is pulling it loose again.....that's how it seemed anyway.

G's eyes are going to be prone to these tears in the future due to his short sightedness, although the new lenses have made him longsighted like me now. They can't just stick the retina all down with the laser to prevent it as that can sometimes cause it to lift away. It's just a case of act quickly to stick down any tears when they happen. Luckily his central vision isn't affected, in fact, even without glasses he can read more of the eye chart now than I can with my glasses on! He said he has never had such good vision since he was 7 years old so that is very positive.

It sounds like your wedding outfit is coming together Jane. Is Hannah wanting you to wear a hat? I hope you can get some antibiotics. I know with my bad throats I get sometimes that I can't shake off, feeling unwell for weeks wears you down and takes all your energy. I feel so sorry for Janice too and you do feel useless when you can't do anything and are in pain. My sister has been in hospital a couple of times last month to treat a bedsore infection with IV antibiotics and it still isn't healing which is a worry.

Mel I will certainly have confused you as I decided I was talking FAR, FAR too much and deleted some of my post about the new neighbour opposite! They ripped out every green thing in their garden, front and back to redo it which is fine except the workmen were arriving before 8.00am and starting a concrete mixer up. As part of it a screening of clipped Beech trees at the bottom of the garden went. Then the neighbour at the bottom of the garden put a shed up, probably partly to give a bit of privacy back and she told him off and said he couldn't put it there! Her nextdoor neighbour told me this as he sees what goes on including her falling out with the landscapers.

The builder's 2 bungalows and house he built at the end of the close are occupied now. A lorry got stuck and churned all the new tarmac up a couple of months ago, trying to turn sharp right at the spot we all said was too narrow for big vehicles. He proved our point nicely.

I'm having an early night now as I will need to be queuing outside the docs by 8.00am to get an appointment tomorrow. Last time they were asking all and sundry what their illnesses were in front of everyone, so they could decide whether to send them to the new Nurse Practitioners. :-S I hope they have had the sense to make it more private somehow as you wouldn't want to be talking about your 'piles' with the receptionist with your neighbour standing at your shoulder in the queue behind you.

Goodnight everyone xx

Gillx

Gillx Report 2 Oct 2018 21:41

That's not good Ann, asking everyone what their illnesses were when other's could hear their answers. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

Has the tarmac been fixed now? it definitely proved your point. I wonder why he didn't just reverse rather than trying to turn around in such a tight space. Hopefully it won't happen again.

Have a good nights sleep, see you tomorrow
Night Night

Gillx Report 3 Oct 2018 10:19

Morning all

Another damp day here, I'm hoping we have at least one dry day this week as the weeds are starting to pop their heads up in the front garden and it's spoiling the look of all our hard work. We have a problem with large established weeds growing down the side of the drive and a few coming through the flags on the drive, so I'm hoping to scrape them out with a gardening tool I have and fill in the gaps with some dry concrete in the hope it blocks the light and rain out and stops them growing back again.

Today is a relaxing day for us I need to catch up with a few programmes I've recorded for myself before Sandra wants to watch Christmas films all day. The one we watched yesterday wasn't a repeat so I assume they'll be others that she'll want to watch.

Catching up with Gardeners world at the moment, while she's still asleep. Monty Don is doing his own experiment on whether black pots or light coloured ones are the best to use. Apparently you can't recycle black pots so the industry are talking about not producing them anymore. He put the same plants in both black and light coloured pots to see which ones grow better and has used three different plants with different root systems. I guess time will tell which pot is best when the programmes comes back on next year.

I use black pots as they seem to disappear into the background in my borders, plus they show some of the plants off better especially the light coloured ones. OH has even sprayed some of my larger pots black for me and I must admit my borders look lovely, when people look at them they don't realise they're made up of pots and none of the plants are in the ground. It's a lot easier to change the look of the borders to as there's no digging involved to move them around.
